Perhaps I am older than a lot of people who post here (50+), but the childish bickering and in house squabbles is for me, wearing thin. A message board should be a place where people can ask for advice or help and as a community we can offer such, and should be able to do so without being ridiculed or put down for having an opinion. Because of the pettiness and in fighting that goes on all to often here, from now on I will only respond directly to the OP of a thread or to another poster that asks me something directly. I thought about simply quitting this altogether, but do enjoy reading the threads and occasionally posting my opinion here and there. Anyway, all the best and I will see how I go from here. Regards Toby.

I know how you feel Toby. It's really only a couple of people spoiling it by thinking theirs is the only opinion that is the absolute truth. A bit like religious zealots.

Good on ya tgray, some posters on here are just a bit under stress I think. They know they are incorrect but their own phycology will no allow any deviation and they like disruption.

Agree 100% Toby, but unfortunately others see the MB as a vehicle for their insults and obsessions.

I took a six month break from posting on this message board to focus on other things and really missed the threads where we helped people with real world problems. We have had vastly different experiences with all things mechanical but there is a difference between a debate and bickering like 5 year olds.

The ability to listen to another's viewpoint and potentially change your own perspective shows strength of character, not weakness. Too many brittle personalities on these forums.

Also an "Informed opinion" with real world 1st hand experience that actually relates to and assists the OP in their query should be the norm. People who off-handedly pass remarks that in no way bear any merit to pros/cons should think twice before posting. If you don't know don't post, it serves no more purpose than exposing one's ignorance to ridicule.

Yeah, take a break, for say ummmm ever, NO one values your input . just kidding ! . yeah, you talk sense, which is surprising for someone who dribbles over American trash . but you are right, that a simple vehicle question turns into a bun fight Given the chance, I can ( because of my back ground ) give a pretty detailed technical reply / advise. and I will concede i'm not 100 % right . but, to have remarks from, other members that are wildly erroneous is frustrating beyond belief. I feel sorry for the poor beggars asking in the first place . there we are, blown my own trumpet

Yep feel the pain same as you Tgray & others.
I have this nasty habit that when I say "It happened to me" it's because IT DID. I deal with enough strange events as it is, to not need my own little fantasy world

One of the few things I miss from when I worked in the Motor trade was the comradery, the exchange of ideas (& BS!) and the light hearted joking (i.e. ‘piss takes’) that you find in most smoko rooms.
I’ve often thought this MB provides the same for many of us who post here. I’ve made some good friends, have has some laughs, have received some sagely advice and hopefully have imparted some of my limited wisdom.
I’ve never had a problem with robust opinionated debate; it’s the immature name calling and personal abuse that does my head in. There’s a small minority here that hide behind a keyboard and a pseudonym that wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the average smoko room without being hauled out to the carpark to sort it out!

Unfortunately mate there will be some PC dept to curb any banter/Pee taking in case feelings are hurt. I thrived on the smoko room banter and I'm still at it with my sons and grandkids. Good character building stuff.

It’s painfully annoying when someone asks about a specific vehicle, (say a Suzuki Swift) and the usual troll waltzes in and hijacks the thread crapping on about his particular hobby horse. Happens in about half of those threads. Ruins them for the OP for the sake of stroking his ego.

I'm officially sick to the gills of the words 'Fiat Punto'.

I will make one post and one post only. Firstly, sorry you feel that way tgray Secondly, in my opinion the better way of helping the situation is if everyone calls out the real trolls when they play up. As in those who are only posting and who only ever post to be nasty to others. In particular, at the moment jmma, slarty45 and ema1 are about the worst. Also Kaz has been getting quite bad (go and have a look, he constantly picks away about "blank spaces" and drops nasty little irrelevant bits in to his posts. I will do a self review as I do periodically and do my best to make sure I am playing nice. However trolling and offering an informed but unpopular opinion are quite different things. Make of this what you will. I don't hold any real hope for the real trolls to get pulled up because they support the common enemy of opinion. Anyhow, you think it's bad for you tgray, have a walk in my shoes for a week.

You say "Just a quick message from tgray", then you launch into a massive wall of text which I can't be bothered reading, probably telling us (again) how your Corvette or whatever you pretend you have parked in your driveway today, is far superior to everyone elses' cars.
Personally I love a good VAG vs Jap fight, I get out the popcorn, ciggies etc and sit back and enjoy.

Oh dear oh dear and you totally excuse yourself from everything eh, you are clueless to the fact that you are the worst TROLL on here and the initial cause of the strife on here. we are trying to point out the errors of your ways but you seem to be totally blind to the fact of what you are actually doing here on threads where the EURO topic isn't being asked for or indeed discussed ! Bombing and ruining/sidetracking threads from O.P.'s that place directed questions on certain NON EURO makes and you crap on about your fanboy favorites which isn't what is being called for is just plain wrong and plain rude to the extreme. until you understand what I'm saying here you can expect more from more than just me on this subject. You just don't understand when you are being called out. it's about time you did ! When oh when are you ever going to desist from bombing threads on NON EURO threads that EURO'S ARE NOT ASKED ABOUT, fine if an alternative is asked about otherwise . NO keep the hell out with your non Euro thread ruining Euro clap trap! Sooner that happens the more sane things will be around here. How many folks on here have tried to remind you of this . numerous folks including me and rightly so. what would be your reaction be if some O.P. asked a specific question on a Euro directly and someone came on here and bombed such a thread with Japanese alternatives . I know you would blow a gasket and get all bitter and twisted . and rightly so. You just don't get it do you . when are you going to realize that not all indeed the vast majority asking about Japanese or Korean cars etc just damn well aren't interested in the Euro options . Wake up for gods sake and realize the common courtesy of NOT RUINING various O.P.'s threads with Euro crap when it's NOT ASKED FOR ! The O.P.'s asking such must get totally pissed off every time you do this as so many of us WITH OWNER AND MOTOR TRADE EXPERIENCE just shake our heads in disgust at the constant HI JACKING of such threads. Trying to buddy buddy up here almost with your tail between your legs as if butter wouldn't melt in your mouth isn't impressing many folks on here . far from it. For goodness sake leave us NON EURO folks asking questions on vehicles NON EURO instead of foisting FIAT's and VAG stuff down our throats. WE DON'T NEED IT OR FOR THAT MATTER APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Frankly you can stick your Euro crap fair where the sun doesn't shine.

Sorry tgray my above post is trying to get through to the one we all have issues with on here that just doesn't understand or realize what it is to NOT involve himself in threads and castigate folks like yourself and ruin or indeed try to ruin their reputations on here. I understand kaz firing round here too at the uncalled for rhetoric of total twaddle and untruths. I get the impression the professionals and others with years of hard earned knowledge don't know diddly squat when WE KNOW the opposite is the REAL truth. I can't be bothered with his crap anymore . the TMMB effectively has been turned into a absolute travesty. and we know who's to blame . right,. I'm trying to make the bloke who's responsible for all this upset understand by some firm rebukes. so far it doesn't seem to be comprehended !

Perspective. a guy I have known all my working life and who has been amongst other things,a very good mechanic ….was recently diagnosed with dementia at about 68yrs old. This guy was an avid collector/rider of old motor bikes, which have all been sold off.He is now in a rest home, doesn't know his wife and family.Maybe we can all be thankful that we can still remember what key to press when we are trolling !

I have met tgray and he's a really genuine nice guy. And sorry to disappoint you, but he has a near new Corvette and Camaro (both red - both manual) parked by his front door. Your having a go at his post and also claiming not to have read it? A clear case of envy I reckon. Posts like yours are part of the problem here and simply unnecessary.

It's a two way street as I see it, I know Jazz has plenty of expertise, and a lot of you ignore it, I think it's good that someone has the guts to offer an alternative motoring experience, you gotta face it, every manufacturer has extremely good and terrible models . I tend toward Euro as a drivers car, but I like that experience . plenty see it as transport , and simply lord the fact they don't need to saddle up to go to town. I honestly don't like the Asian manufactures or crap they produce, . it's in a strange way , very bland, and the tech has usually been stolen / recycled from the Euros .
