If a Tesla does 400+, how much would it be able to do if was carrying a heavy load or pulling trailer around NZ's terrain?

apollo11, Jul 1, 3:25am
The model X has a range of around 450km, got to 70% of this towing a 2700lb caravan. See the link:

https://electrek.co/2016/04/08/tesla-model-x-tow-test/

I watched a video on Youtube of a very strange bloke giggling maniacally as he overtook traffic going up the Alps towing a very large boat with his model X- will try to find it.

Another thing to be aware of with the current crop of batteries is loss of range due to low temperatures. Should be sorted if they stop using organic solvents in the batteries.

Probably much the same as any other sports car. Not many corvettes pulling heavy loads or towing trailers.

apollo11, Jul 1, 4:39am
I'd have thought that a heavy sedan with the torque of electric motors (especially the all wheel drive) would be fine for towing. The model X in the article above was getting 0 to 100 in 5.5 seconds towing a caravan lol!

Im talking about Nz not Europe . & i dont mean home charging stations

Charge net, electric highway is in New Zealand.
Over 90% of EV owners "refuel" overnight so if travelling less than 100Km per day, have no need of fast chargers.

apollo11, Jul 2, 2:02am
You were of the opinion that charging grids won't be put in before the cars are here in any number, and that the grid will be overloaded by car charging anyway. The evidence is showing that charging grids are getting installed in anticipation of future demand and that having cars plugged into the grid will actually be a positive for grid stability.

Considering the early stage we're at with EV adoption in NZ there's heaps of fast charging available. Even in my short range Gen 2 Leaf (about 120 - 130km open road I can easily get from Christchurch to Dunedin in a day. There's around 60 fast chargers already deployed and I think its suppose to be 100 by the end of next year. They're cheap to install so they're going in very quickly now. There's 8 of them under construction at this very minute.

The I-pace is a good looking car, but once again it will all come down to price.

We had a 7kW JuicePoint unit fitted at our last property which we had listed on PlugShare. Currently we are charging via a 15amp socket so aren't PlugShare listed for now.
