Just a thought. Is the service requirement based on time or distance. As if its distance then not getting it done by a certain date is just nonsense. From what OP has said I think its a case where the repair in July wasn't done properly in that they only did 1 seal when they should have done them all, or if they did do them all they have a workmanship issue. Cynical me wonders if the real problem is that Mitsi NZ have told the workshop "you stuffed it up and so you have to pay to fix it and dont come asking us to get you out of the hole" and the workshop is trying to run away. Easy way to find out - ring Mitsi NZ and see what they have to say. eta Just what was required to be done in the Sept service? Would most or all of the engine service have been done as part of the repair work in July? If so I'd say you didn't need a Sept service done at all.

good thoughts SN . as I said in an earlier post, I suspect possibly more damage with initial injector fail . . get stuck into the buggers mate . get on to a Mitsi vehicle users site and explain the problem . as SN points out . is this a repeat of the same problem, or some new nasty noises

Thanks for the feedback guys to date, much appreciated. I went back and checked the last invoice for July 17, and it states "no. 3 injector seal leaking causing oil contamination and misfire. Cleaned injector sealing surface and resealed injector. Replaced contaminated engine oil and filter. Road tested vehicle from cold and no further faults found."
Kilometres at time were 67,000kms. I will have to check kilometres that it has done since but would be less than 75,000 as it had only about 72,000 when it was parked as I was aware it would need road users before too long. Next service was then due at 30/09/2017 and WOF 19/05/18. Given it hadn't done the 15,000kms since its last service (59,000kms in March 2017) I thought if it hadn't sold by the time the WOF would be due that a service then would cover it as it would be close to the 75,000kms by then plus considering its minimal use over the last seven months or so. The service before this was at 45,000 in September 2016 so I had been adhering to the six month or 15,000km services before this incident.

Also should mention, according to the dealer, Mitsubishi will match whatever contribution the local dealer will contribute to fixing the vehicle but the dealer indicated they don't have the budget and indicated if I did proceed to fix it that they would be talking around a $1000 towards it so $2,000 total towards a total rebuild second hand of $18-19,000 excluding the $1000 or so for labour to date stripping the engine to diagnose the issue.

Simply to bad that the dealer dosen't have a budget. He wil just have to find the funds somewhere.

Latest reply from Mitsibishi - amended:
Thank you for contacting us about your Mitsubishi Triton. I am sorry to hear that the engine must be replaced in your vehicle.
After speaking with our warranty team on your concerns we are unable to assist with the cost of repairs. This is due to the Triton being out of warranty and service history being done by mileage not time or mileage (whichever comes first).
As the subsequent owner you were entitled to the 3 year/130,000km manufacturer’s warranty. This warranty expired in May 2017. The vehicle was also required to be serviced every 15,000 km or 6 months (whichever comes first).
While we can understand your frustration we do recommend that you speak further with the local dealer as the servicing has been taken out at this dealership. I am sure that they can discuss your options for repair.
I am sorry that we cannot help any further.
