Why do we spend thousands of dollars on top of the line cars, with all the bells and whistles? and cant find the indicator From my experience us NZ drivers do not know where the indicator stem is Asian cars it is mostly on the right European on the left Please learn to use it even when you think no other cars or people are around

I'm driving a BMW so I don't have to. I checked with a cop and he confirmed.

Most Police cars are exempt too.

I found that in Europe that indicaters in the bmw’s there do work. I’m not to sure why they are not fitted to the nz models.

How come indicators on some new cars are so hard to see during the day when they do bother to use them.

Replacing a switch is expensive, best to not use it so it stays operable for the WOF test.

History lesson.
The old cars had red lenses that often faded & also when broken, exposed the white bulb.
The modern trick is to use a transparent outer lens & a red bulb. If the outer lens gets busted, theres still a red bulb showing.
What you are describing is a sunlight glare effect on the surface of that transparent lens.
Yes it's a pet hate of mine as well

I'd rather concentrate on finding and avoiding the driver that is trying to kill me instead of playing with my toys.

I've found that even if the left ones work for a left turn, they magically change to a right flash when leaving a roundabout.

Maybe drivers would indicate more often if they had their hands on the steering wheel at "10 to 2" or "15 to 3", very close indeed to the indicator switch, instead of the very common one hand at the top of the wheel. It is not even comfortable (I have tried it!), but a great majority of people seem to drive that way. I am told it is "cool" , but to me it just makes the driver look like a slob. Our local council has had 2-page adverts in the papers about road rules , including indicating at roundabouts, but they seem to have had no effect. We still get red light runners, failures to stop (let alone give way) at stop signs, and very slow dozies holding up long lines of traffic.

Since the red semaphore indicators were removed I thought there was no further need to indicate.

Does this apply to Audis too?

Project car also has trafficators - bet not many people even see them.

Two things come to mind: When I was younger, the Road Code had different hand signals you could use, including arm out the window, bent at the elbow at 90deg, to show you intended slowing down or stopping. I think there was also one for turning left where you held your left arm straight out, inside the car. Secondly, remember when some trucks used to have a long metal arm with a 'hand' at the end than was attached to the door with a pivot, the driver lifted it up when he/she wanted to turn right.

My uncle used hand signals to indicate he was stopping and wondered why the driver in the car behind was a bit irate. Didn't have time to wind the window down lol, and no-one could see his hand signal.

I put flashing LED bulbs in the trafficators of my old car. They get noticed now. Flasher is built in to bulbs so no rewiring required.

I stopped while driving an old open car using the correct signal. The car following stopped alongside and driver ranting. While I was removing my flying helmet I heard his wife say "Shut up you idiot, he was indicating to stop not giving you the fingers". They took off again quickly.
