It's a bit of a wild west out there now, is it going to make it worst. Police will no longer pursue drivers who are speeding, acting suspiciously or fleeing for no apparent reason in a major shake up of controversial chase procedures. Frontline police say chasing suspected drunk drivers, car thieves and suspicious vehicles will now be a thing of the past because the suspected crime does not justify the risk.

care to post where you got that from. mind you i did not read my spam on the phone this morning lol
They shouldn't chase them anyway just put a RPG up the tail pipe of the car that's running. A couple of those and chases will reduce to zero in very quick time.

While you are at it, just start executing prisoners convicted of anything worse than burglary. That will surely stop crime amirite?

You missed the sarcasm. Thankfully people like you are no where near the levers of power.

So a thief in a stolen car has a virtual 100% chance of getting away now. All they have to do is put their foot down and drive away. What on earth would be their incentive to pull over?

Tongue/cheek/foot/mouth. Try a mirror sometime. Doh.

depends, they still could crash into a tree. or kill someone else while joy riding. just that the police will not be grilled as the cause, as they are not involved until something serious has happened.

and the owner gets the speeding fine.
to add, the car isn't stolen until the owner goes to a police station and fills out the forms ie a day later after the speeding offence.

Ouch. Hmm. indeed if the police don't chase a speeding car they're going to have to assume, (if they have the rego details), that the car was driven by the owner I guess. And issue a ticket. And then it's going to be up to the owner to prove innocence ? And that's against the priciples of Law here where we expect that the people bringing the charges must prove guilt of the charged party. Interesting. Difficult. Perhaps they simply wont bother trying to issue speeding tickets to any owner of a vehicle which runs ?
Which could result in many more speeding vehicles simply - well speeding. The do currently issue camera tickets to the owners of speeding cars. Perhaps this is how it'll go ?

So what these SJW or Bleeding Hearts are saying is that its not the Fault of these scumbags/toe rags that steal the car its actually the fault of the Police who are trying to enforce the law.! If they crash the (stolen) car and someone is killed or injured who is at blame then ?

They dont need to chase fleeing drivers, all they need is the number plate, description and do the follow up work, and if the car is stolen? one chance in a million, the next 2015 ish car you see driveing down the road you wont have a clue if it has a freshly busted ignition barrel, they get insurance and theives eventualy get caught, whats the point in getting that ah ha moment at the roadside chaceing a car screaming at 100 ks through a 50 k zone, its reckless endangerment is what it is, chop shops get busted eventually, and who wants a cheap chopped and pimped prius anyway, the illustrious cars are becomeing a thing of the past now.

That stolen car will get granny driven to the nearest chopshop, the owner will get a payout, and when the theif finnaly gets busted they will go down for more than a couple of cars.

I don't think that speeding drivers are going to just report their car as stolen are they, as otherwise the police become a bit suspicious when the owner still has the car.

You got it backwards dude. The assumption will be that any car is driven by the owner. The owner will then have to offer proof they were not driving the car.

Steeling a mk5 cortina for a joyride use to be fun for theives i guess, they would smoke up, who wants to joyride in a hybrid / traction controlled / plastic fantastic pile of garbege anyway, whats worth the joy out there now?. - . - . - .
Kaz.My understanding is that is how the system has always been.the registered owner is presumed to be the driver until they furnish proof that they werent and identify the driver.
