Muldoon would turn in his grave if they scrapped the refinery . He wanted Nz to be self suffient for fuels as much as possible hence its upgrade to use low grade crude .so we wernt dependant on one source .another step to make NZ 100% reliant on imports for everything but dairy food .

Yeah but like everything else that got privatised, it has to pay it's way now.

And we need privatisation not for the economics of it, but because we can't have bureaucracy being responsible for anything they can prosecute someone else for.

That may be so, but they are unlikely to be a major consumer of fuel on a national level.

With an older car, iron head, pre-hardened valve seats, a shot of leaded Avgas/racegas now and again is essential if running at high revs. Not cheap though.
