If they manage to sort out self driving, I fear it will be the beginning of the end for personal vehicle ownership. Owning your own vehicle will likely become increasingly more expensive, and eventually a preserve of the wealthy elite. The grubby poor will be required to 'dial a ride' and wait for the communal 'scent of vomit' shared passenger e'wagon. Some will be happy with this, some won't.

The most 'environmentally friendly' thing you should have done was not have kids, never mind.

Use your common sense.

my god there is some laughable stuff in that list of things. like most things, the practical stuff will be done, probably in a much lower scale than they think and the rest will be ignored.

OK, a vehicle is any machine which can be used as a mode of transport. Not just a car. Could be a scooter, skateboard, motorbike, bicycle, dinghy, sailboat, yacht, aircraft, ship, train or many other things.
Driving obsessed people seem to think that the only vehicle is a car.
Not all of those things on the list will become self driving rent only machines.

You have to juggle the gears with the engine speed, no sincro,s in the gearbox.

There is no way any 125 is going to be powerfull enough to move a normal person at 100k let alone make it up any hills, even the 40hp 250 I ride struggles up hills

I had a honda 125 cb twin, it was some early 80s thing and that realy turned on, It wasnt on the road but that would do 100 ks no doubt, the speedo shot well past 60 on the redline through the gears.
i had a quick look at parts of that. even the think tank chart had more realistic stuff than what NZ govt is putting out.
nz govt says electric planes in 15 years, uk think tank says maybe electric planes in 30 years time. reality is entirely new battery tech is required for any load carrying vehicle. the govt is talking BS.

Meanwhile China don’t give continental about climate change & what we save in emissions will make jack shit difference
Considering that China is now the manufacturer of most of the products consumed by the developed nations that would seem like those nations are just shifting their pollution offshore, particularly to China.

No deff. not,the average would be considerbly less, altho my point is there IS a lot of people that do decent commutes in N.Z.-some quite a bit more kms than that and the proposed changes with public transport, sharing cars etc will not work for everyone.

They could be quite different - stuck in traffic a lot of the way in a large gas guzzler c.f. driving a smaller more economical car and all open road.

edit, i like bikes to, but not always practical for distance commuting, esp. in winter on wet windy days with icy roads etc
