Cost of building here is not the materials but the cost of compliance +gst

No, it is that masonry, brick and concrete and strong in compression, but very weak in tension, and brittle, so the up and down loads, and sideways shaking in an earthquake will cause them to fail in a catastrophic fashion.
You need to know that CHCH sits on an ancient river plain and that the composition of the ground is a poor performer in an earthquake. Hence the amount of Liquefaction. Son #3 spent a considerable amount of time down there doing test drilling and Fracking.

Hang on, supermarket shopping is cheaper in Europe, restaurants are 40% cheaper, houses are built to be earthquake proof and have nuclear shelters? NZ is a rip off and full of gungsters and morons. All of this is pointing to one thing.

I am going to go to Supercheap today to get some 2 stroke oil.

The range of two stroke oil at supercheap has greatly diminished now. Quite disappointing. You used to be able to buy 4L of Castrol full synthetic for only $80, now they don't have it at all! What a ripoff.

Castrol may have decided some retailers sell too cheap
