This is one company that is Australasian and the prices in Oz compared with ours are quite a lot cheaper when compared, sometimes half our price. Interesting.

we get ripped off. with everything food building materials the lot.
in europe you have for food like top-cc with a card a bit like costco. or g. mors that nz has. IT is strictly for restaurants in europe and prices are 40% lower then in any supermarket. as where here you be lucky if some things in bulk are 10% cheaper. In europe food prices will go up 40% due to green production laws. do you think we will get tripple the prices for food soon in our supermarkets because hey we cant go no where else so lets shaft us some more in every sector.
https://www.topcc.ch/
keep in mind switzerland is europes most expensive place to buy food. checkout supermarket workers have close to 40$ nz per h wages average monthly is 8 grand nz

Perhaps it's a case of smaller population, fewer customers per store. They still have to cover their overheads, so prices are higher. Perhaps higher freight costs getting all of the junk from China too.

intrade, Mar 24, 10:32pm
german beer cost the same as nz beer. it dont adds up end of story.

bryshaw, Mar 24, 10:33pm
I just used this company because it has an Oz owner. Bunnings and Oz Mitre10 building material prices bear out your claim on us getting ripped off.

I would be interesting to know if you get better prices as trade from other sectors.
i can tell you i pay the same price as you get in them specials mailers when i order thru account= you cant make a living with prices like this.
The absolute worst sector is marine and lawnmowers. With cars there is a few like needle in hay stack who give good trade prices on items they stock. as the other 2 its absolute mindbogglingly extortion. 65 bux for a lawn tracror hydraulic filter and no one else can supply one. marine 1 cilinder head gasket 160$ probably now 350 bux if you wanted one now.

bryshaw, Mar 24, 10:39pm
Some tradies get good deals because of volume buying, and I latch onto them with their permission of course if I need a product.

intrade, Mar 24, 10:53pm
car batterys is another one i opened account and paid the same as the reseller list them on sale on trademe. and local agent told me on phone i had good prices. ye for him for sure but not for me. He wanted to meet up . i never went and binned the crap deal. its cheaper to lay in bed then to work for free. trust me i can calculate i got no mortgage and 0 debt.

Someone could get the impression that you don't have a clue.

tygertung, Mar 24, 11:16pm
I remember back in 2008 I went over to Australia for my honeymoon. When we went, kiwifruit were selling for 60c a kilogram in NZ, over in Australia they were 60c each, what a ripoff!

intrade, Mar 24, 11:21pm
interesting i bet someone who thinks this does not own a mortgage free property. making it clear as day who is got no clue.

intrade, Mar 24, 11:27pm
The problem is government is paid by dig corporations like H. y to not let anything better at lower price establish. If ardern was any good she would pass a law to change building code. anything the EU uses is now also nz law.
This would enable better quality chipboards and any other building meterials. But this would destoy the extortion prices for inferior NZ aproofed chipboards from these big gungsters.

cattleshed, Mar 24, 11:33pm
Supercheap, a key case comprising of two plastic pieces and the wee screw according to the salesman that's all you get and $58 for that! Repco prices are actually worse I think. Eg I recall $240 for a Toyota Camry front wheel bearing! There is no excuse for it.

tygertung, Mar 24, 11:45pm
EU building code is not suitable for NZ. We have more earthquakes and it gets wetter here so need more eaves and drainage cavities.

intrade, Mar 24, 11:52pm
i think your in some dream world of sorts? First of all i said for building materials. secoundly a european house will be standing when the toothpick and wetabix houses have fallen Apart way. sooner then a swiss german or austrian built house.
https://www.thelocal.de/20200210/in-pictures-winds-up-to-170kmh-recorded-as-storm-batters-germany/ do you think your toothpicks made house be still there. look at all other houses no damage at all. garden sheds are built like nz houses in europe.
look at usa they also have toothpick houses usually nothing left after a real storm
and houses have no eaves there? what do you call this?

Here is your toothpick nz house built as garden shed there and no weetabix flooring on top. The european code is 100 times superior. At a fraction of the cost. and erthquake proof. hell they have nuclear bomb shelters in basement. in switzerland it was law to have this in 1980s. do you think that be earthquake save if its to be a nuke-shelter.

apollo11, Mar 25, 12:27am
Oh it's as clear as day, all right. I've been mortgage free for twenty years. Not that that matters in the slightest.

tygertung, Mar 25, 1:20am
In Europe they can build double brick houses, however this is not good for earthquakes as it isn't flexible.

poppy62, Mar 25, 2:14am
So! I go into a furniture shop with youngest son to fit out his new small home. Total of the items he wants to purchase comes to a total of $2687.00. I say to the owner/manager. this is the 1st place we have checked out so if you are prepared to give us a good deal we will buy Now or we'll go elsewhere. Owner went to the computer and typed away for about 3 minutes, comes back over to us and says. Yes I can offer you a good deal. "This is the best I can do says the owner/manager. Price will be $2685.00 . A Savings of $2.00. It was just too good an offer to turn down!

martin11, Mar 25, 2:21am
My old family home built in 1948 in Picton was double brick plastered on the inside and it survived the Kaikoura Earthquakes with no damage .

kiwilandchch, Mar 25, 3:03am
old news kiwis are ripped off left right and center

kiwilandchch, Mar 25, 3:06am
i paid $165 to get 2 washers changed on bathroom taps .
in charge was travel time and ppe charge of $20
house in another city i had no choice but get plumber in man do i feel screwed

tygertung, Mar 25, 3:30am
That may be so, but there was no end of double brick constructed building collapsing in Christchurch during the Christchurch earthquakes.

You cannot compare any price from NZ gods own to Europe, that's dumb thinking and no clue to economies and economics,. At the end of the day most of us live well, I know I do, and money plays a small part,be grateful to be here. Ka pai

It was the Shit ground underneath that caused most of the Chch problems
