The RGV wasnt that peaky. it felt it because of the top end rush, but it also has more torque than the impulse.

I've only ridden a couple and found them utterly gutless and then not gutless in a hurry. Might have been worked motors though perhaps.

I had a couple of XZ400's and yeah they were underpowered, over weight and under dampened, but a decent enough commuter for the time. Made for the Japanese domestic market in the same way as the XT400 of the time - and both just a reduced capacity version of the 550 version. The XZ had a price ag of 3K (as did the XT I remember) new and was a great deal at the time for a 400cc motorcycle.

I read that the engines were put into the motorbikes here & sold here new. That's why the XZ550 engines had the same serial # as the frame. While the XZ400 only had the first 2 letters, which was the engine code. I can't remember the letters now. A mate had the 550 & I had the 400. The brake & gear levers wear out where they pivot & I drilled & reamed the casting out & fitted a nylon type bush to fix it.
