Fairgo tonight [have a look]. Plugs sooted up in a mazda due to wrong plugs fitted. Ok, i'm a bit of a sceptic on most things when there's no clear answer. Is it more likely something amiss in the fuel injection, [like a low flying duck in the air filter causing rich running]. Would a damn good thrashing clear it [like my 2.5PI many moons ago]. Wow plugs are expensive--i'm out of touch. Just saying do you think down the track they'll be back a third time. I need to watch it again without interruptions, but, might be wrong--think they went to get it serviced or had an initial problem [this problem?] so then it was ok for a bit. Then happened again. So new plugs & is ok now 'again'. Maybe i'm step out depending on the first garage visit--like for what reason [misfire, not sure]. I'll watch on demand [when i'm allowed lol]. Thanks. ps, or is it the 91 fuel compared to 96.

Actually, they had an issue in the first place which is why spark plugs were changed.
Then going back home to Gore, local garage said wrong spark plugs, must keep car overnight and charged them double what the first place charged.
So why pick on the first crowd? I'm pretty horrified about the Gore garage. unsurprised actually, but horrified.

did they show the accounts on TV because it may have been more than a simple plug change, ie, did they also give it a full service like, air filters, full engine scan, tire pressures, grease, check brake rotors / pads, wheel rotation
which is what I would expect if I had a car looked at, all of my vehicles get a 10k service which usually costs between 450 - 800 dollars which is also part of the warranty requirements.
With my old 1998 mazda shop hack I give it a full service every 10k.

When I bought my car it had the wrong plugs in it so my mechanic put in platinum plugs. That was 12 years ago and they have been perfect ever since.

You give it or do you throw money at someone else?

Fair Go F Up. Dunedin dealer had offered to refund and supply $100 petrol voucher. Should have been end of story, they were not required to pay for the rip off 2nd mechanic.

kazbanz, Oct 13, 11:27pm
There was a LOT --as in a shed load left out of that story they deemed lot relevant.
1)The wrong spark plugs were discovered 6 months after the original job was done
2) The vehicle had nigh on 200 k on the clock.
3) the owners usually drove 20-25 thousand km a year.-so that 6 months was 10-12.5 thousand k later
4) The invoice from the garage in Gore was sent to the Dunedin garage so they were unambiguously were able to state that the work was identical to that they themselves carried out. (with the exception of the "wrong" plugs) .
5) The Dunedin garage without hesitation offered not only to refund their charge but offered $100 in petrol vouchers as compensation-BEFORE any involvement by Fair Go . A VERY different picture to that painted by Fair Go.
6) The plugs were replaced in the first place as a result of poor running. Given all that was needed to rectify the poor running was replacement plugs you have to question the vehicles service history.

Those clowns on Fair Go must have sore shoulders from constantly patting themselves on the back. They never seem to run out of B. T.

intrade, Oct 14, 5:25am
something was not adding up they just cut out some important stuff to make it more presentable for fair go. its more like mupetshow these days if you ask me.

franc123, Oct 14, 5:28am
Fair Go is tabloid television these days with piecemeal stories aimed at a not very high level of IQ. Far cry from the days of when Phillip Alpers and Kevin Milne (among others) were involved.

Just watched it on demand & as Kazbanz says ["There was a LOT --as in a shed load left out of that story they deemed not relevant"]. Suppose they're doing it to a time slot but if they left out irrelevant jokes & rubbish we might know more of the story. Come back in 6 months & see how its going--hopefully well--but! .
Thanks for your comments & any that may follow. Link below, if it works. Need to be logged in to see it i think-i was.

Interesting--I don't seem to be able to find the story any more on their stories list.

gazzat22, Oct 14, 11:42pm
I would like to know what were the "Wrong Spark Plugs" and what were the "Right Spark Plugs" that it took 6 months for the "Fault" to show up and how many K,s they did in that time. I am quite surprised that the Dunedin garage "caved "in to Fair Go.What else did the Gore garage do like renew the Air Filter or?.Something a bit fishy.! why if it was just a Spark plug change did they need to keep the vehicle overnight?

kingfisher21, Oct 15, 1:43am
Didn't see the prog, but what was the car? Wasn't an RX8 was it?

kazbanz, Oct 15, 3:07am
Nope a 2008 Mazda CX7 with at least 190000km on the clock

kazbanz, Oct 15, 3:15am
Based on the cars history they travelled 10-12.5 thousand km in that 6 months.
What is not in dispute is that the wrong plugs were indeed fitted. But what is also not in dispute is the exact work carried out by the Dunedin garage and the Gore Garage because the invoice was sent to the franchise workshop by the customers. So the Dunedin garage were able to state as fact not guess that they would have done the exact job for half the price.

regy_2005, Oct 15, 6:04am
Of course the Mazda owners were whinging poms

yz490, Oct 15, 11:04am
Kaz it's still there on TVNZ. Go categories then A to Z, then F, then scroll down on the Fairgo page. Third story down. Gotta be logged in. Cheers.

kazbanz, Oct 15, 8:26pm
Fair nuff. --Actually almost everywhere I look FG are getting roasted for this story. There's the odd person supporting them but overwhelmingly they are being roasted.
There is some really funny dialog on their FB page. People who literally don't have a clue about engines commenting.

yz490, Oct 15, 9:16pm
Ok thanks, must go look. Didn't know there was a facebook page haha, but of there always is these days.

kazbanz, Oct 15, 10:00pm
yea --its their --ohh look at us haven't we dun good page.
Its not the first time they have got automotive stories wrong -as in really badly wrong.
THIS case though has set an extremely bad and dangerous precedent.
To get back not only the cost of the original invoice but the rectification invoice as well is in no way shape or form a Fair Go. instead its a rort.

gazzat22, Oct 15, 10:27pm
Kaz. The "wrong"plugs took 6 months before affecting the vehicle and presumably quite a few K,s so they cant have been TOO wrong,I find it hard to believe the Agents in Dunedin put the wrong plugs in.there is a paucity of information.Maybe just maybe the Dunedin company put in standard plugs instead of or similar ones like iridium or platinum.

kazbanz, Oct 15, 11:31pm
The franchise dealership owned that the plugs were wrong enough, that with no prompting whatsoever were prepared to refund their invoice and $100 as a goodwill gesture so they have unquestionably taken ownership of the mistake.

gazzat22, Oct 16, 4:48am
So basically $300 to replace spark plugs then $600 + to replace the "wrong" spark plugs with the correct ones.Something doesnt quite add up unless the Gore Garage did somewhat more than the Dunedin (agents) did .Doubt we will ever know the full story. aka Truth.!
