I'm thinking of buying a 2012-2018 G63.

Life is short. If you like it, buy it. If you’re worried about potential high repair costs get a mechanical warranty with it and enjoy.

Whats a G63? Is it a Mitsubishi Engine?

Yes saxman is correct. What does the review say. Take a chance, or get a warranty.

My sentiments too. Thanks for the advice

Thanks. I had not read that one. My favourite quote from that review: "As laughable, scary and as plain bad as the G63 is at dealing with corners, there is still something strangely appealing about the boxy Merc. It is the antidote to highly polished, eerily perfect, ineffably quick modern performance cars. By almost any measure the G63 is bad, but those faults give it a unique character that is shamefully difficult to dislike."

Go for it mate. My brother has one of the last non-turbo AMG 63 ML's - we've had a huge amount of fun with it.

theo35, Feb 13, 2:42am
This is the point. I don't have that much in my life really, life is for living ay.

theo35, Feb 13, 2:43am
Do you mean no don't get one?

theo35, Feb 13, 2:46am
The review says cool fun quality vehicle. I'll probably take my chances without a warranty as more freedom. but then again that could be a mistake :)

If you don't want either of the above, don't buy them. They are obviously both very nice ride's, the range rover will be far better dynamically than the 63, and the land rover would be better off road (but having an retrofired engine isn't as ideal as a factory engine in the AMG)

Obviously you have a strong preference for euro's with high output power-trains.

Frankly there is nothing that directly competes with the AMG 63, so if you are willing to pay the high purchase price, and live with it's limitations, I say go for it. They command a high price for a reason.

Currently there is only a single 2018 on trademe, but i image your $150k price estimate would be about right for one a bit older than that, and that they would come up now and then.

Looking for approval from random internet stranger to buy something you want is fruitless. You either want something or you don’t.

gph1961, Feb 13, 4:09am
leave the thinking to someone else cos you might hurt yourself (health and safety first)

theo35, Feb 13, 5:08am
Thank you :) I appreciate your comments

theo35, Feb 13, 5:10am
Okay fair enough comment sw20. however I am interested in your opinion on owning a g63 should you care to comment

theo35, Feb 13, 5:11am
yeah spread the load

Big power in off-roader? Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Mate has one with enhanced breathing and stuff and it’s hilarious.

Yes or a Trackhawk. does not appeal though thanks

G Class has had a very successful career in the Safari over the preceding years. They were great performers and handled the terrain excellently. The newer versions "Have" to be improved versions because that's what Mercedes do. The G63 is going to give you a whole lot of satisfaction plus it's bound to hold it's value very well if the older generation Gs are an example. As quoted earlier, Drive It and if you like it. Own it. The "bucket kicking" exercise is an unknown time factor for us all . and the last thing you'd want is for someone else to use your dosh to buy themselves a G63.

There are less and less of these tough military-style trucks, the Benz G-wagon used by various armed forces. Sadly the latest Landrover Defender has become just another curvy Jap-Jeep.

theo35, Feb 13, 7:12am
Oh how true. thanks for these comments. Yes I feel that now with the years I have left I would be a fool not to buy one and enjoy it :)

theo35, Feb 13, 7:17am
Oh for sure. There's nothing like the feeling of driving a body on ladder frame full chassis 4x4 with solid axles front and rear

buyit59, Feb 13, 7:24am
I say go for it Theo. and please let us all know how much you are enjoying it !

theo35, Feb 13, 7:47am
Lol. Thanks for your comments. I've been thinking on this for some months and a purchase is still some months off. I've always been the type of person to not have now so i could possibly have later
