I'm thinking of buying a 2012-2018 G63.

If you are not partially in a hurry, there are a number of crazy high performance electric 4x4's on the horizon. (2022 / 2023).

Mostly styled to appeal to the american market. Might not appeal to your euro preferences.

Rivian R1S (0-60MPH in 3.0sec)
Tesla cybertruck (0-60 n 2.9sec)
Hummer EV (0-60 in around 3 seconds)

If the end up making it to NZ all of the above should be under $200k in the highest performance version.

They all are unibody with independent suspension rather than solid axles, but very tall tires and long travel adjustable suspension mean they should hold their own with solid axle vehicles off road.

My boss has the 2020 G63 and she loves it and she says it helps her stand out when driving. She misses the handling of her C63 coupe though.
But take one for a drive and see how it goes,we had a customer buy the G350 without test driving and she didnt like the heavy steering so yeah. drive one and see if you can live with it.

Actually thinking on this overnight I think I know where you're headed. I think you might be meaning if you spend 150k on a vehicle you would want it to be a viable option for the next 10, 20, or even 30+ years. Now with the announcement of banning new sales and imports of fossil fueled cars from 2032 it might make a vehicle like a g63 very difficult to own in the future and an EV equivalent might future proof the purchase. This is something I've been thinking about and here are some of my thoughts:
• I doubt they would ever ban a g63 from the road?
• EVs are very powerful by all accounts but i doubt they rumble underneath you like and ICE
• An EV's batteries could require replacing two or three times over the next 30+ years at great expense
• Even in 20 years I doubt people are going to hate on a polluting g63 when they see it on the street?

A friend did that not too long ago buying a 2012 Jag for $55,000 from a dealer with cover from the CGA and a warranty. It broke down twice within a month, the Sat Nav stopped working along with about 6 other features. The buyer ended up going to the Disputes Tribunal to try and get there money back. The dealer was ordered to fix all the issues as they were not considered major. When they finally returned the car, half the features didn't work that they were supposed to repair, By this stage my friend had had enough and just wanted out, so traded the car in for a new Holden V8 for a $20,000 loss 3 months after purchase.
Moral of the story? He took a chance and got a warranty and still lost big time.
