You are right, both the 3.8 and 5.0 engines were Oz built, the 3.8 was a lightly modded Buick engine while the 5.0 was their own work, naturally being a development of the old 308.

the early VN-VP 3.8 engines were Buick engines, but then the VR onwards 'Ecotec' were a development of the Buick engine, something about the block deck height and rod length changing amongst other changes.

How about Mercedes Benz and various Volvo's with more than a million MILES not Kilometers on them worldwide. Well shucks I even know of a toyota Hi Ace in courier service only went onto it's second engine at over 1.5 million kms, abaitseveral clutches and brake jobs done in that time.
