Why do mothers of infants use the right rear seat!

muzz67, Sep 9, 7:14pm
went past a kindy yesterday,, or tried to. road completely blocked by mothers with the right hand side rear doors open and them leaning in to buckle the kids in! Is it supposedly safer in the event of an accident or something! I would have thought it would be worse than the footpath side! Not ranting,, just curious!

jsbike, Sep 9, 8:41pm
maybe have another kid in the back old enough to get in and out themselves, in which case its safer for them to do so on the L hand side of the car. if i had only one in the back id be putting them in the rear L hand side, safer to me as in a head on crash, a car hitting you will most likely come through the R hand side of the car

v8_mopar, Sep 9, 8:55pm
#1 You bring up a good point and one I have noted myself. Also I would go as far as to say dads put there kids on the foot path side more often than not

muzz67, Sep 9, 9:08pm
agree with you both,, surely a chid is safer entering and exiting on the footpath side!

slacker8, Sep 9, 9:13pm
No idea but is it just a ease thing, you can throw the kid in and then jump in drivers seat without having to walk around car maybe!

gunhand, Sep 9, 9:14pm
Well considering some dont have the intelligence to park on the same side as the school to pick up and drop off and let there kids run out from behind cars etc, you have to ask! Sure sometimes you can not park on same side but how hard can it be to get there fat butts out to escort them across the road. They will be the sort to kick up and blame the school if ther kid gets splattered while there txting or gass bagging instead of supervising.

Proven fact - a parents IQ drops by 50% as they approach a loading/unloading zone with their precious cargo. It's fricken weird. Park on the pedestrian crossing, park on opposite side and wave at their darling across the street.morons. People complain about women drivers, old people, asians.but the worst driver on the road is any parent within 500m of loading or unloading a kid.

crzyhrse, Sep 9, 9:27pm
They're just lazy.

richynuts, Sep 9, 9:30pm
ironic!

footplate1, Sep 9, 9:37pm
Yes, same thing at St Thomas in Kohi.Narrow street blocked by rear right doors.Worse when it's an SUV.Add this to near universal use of rear mirror.

mk3zephyr, Sep 9, 10:14pm
Our infant is always on the left side, also when the child drops his/her bottle or toy or whatever it is easier to stop the car and reach across rather than back and around. Just makes sense to me but then again some people have no common sense

s.patete, Sep 9, 10:26pm
When we only had one she was always on left side, we felt its just safer, now we have two the oldest is still on left side as she can get in and out by herself, so once again we feel its safer, wont just randomly open door while traffic is coming, and we usually wait until a clear bit of road before walking youngest around to put her in, or tell her to climb over and reach round to buckle her in once in drivers seat.

We have two kids in the back. Infant and 3 1/2 year old. Shall I put them in the boot!

zephyrheaven, Sep 9, 11:10pm
Same - big one on RH side & fiddly capsule device on LH side to the curb

jason18, Sep 9, 11:12pm
Yeah same here big on RH and Infant on LH. Figure easier to put infant on Curb side with out risk of getting hit by traffic but still have to venture over to other side to buckle Daughter in.

icemans1, Sep 9, 11:22pm
they reckon leave kids rear facing as long as possible - it's safer for the kid in an accident

neo_psy, Sep 9, 11:24pm
Just pick the one you like the most.

jason18, Sep 9, 11:28pm
Yeah definately.

jason18, Sep 9, 11:28pm
mmmmm Hard choice!

I have 3 kids, 2 school age, 1 toddler. When I used to pick the two older girls up from school they would sit in the centre (safest position) and right side, I'd have to lean in and buckle both of them up and could still manage to do this when the road was clear.
It doesn't take intelligence to wait until the road is clear before opening your right door and leaning in to do this, I could do this in the 'peak' school leaving time just fine, but for some people it is obviously completely beyond their abilities.

msigg, Sep 10, 3:12am
So they can see them in the revision mirror.

muzz67, Sep 10, 3:14am
hardly worth risking your and your childs life for.

dragontales, Sep 10, 4:37am
have always had my child enter on the footpath side i have always had them on this side

xacoon, Oct 19, 5:44am
