If they want to sacrifice economy, safety, value for money, running costs for the higher seating position then fine.
If they want to sacrifice just the higher seating position in favor of economy, safety, value for money, running costs. That may make just a little more sense.

Ahh but it achieves its 143kw's with EFFICIENCY. Cleaver means it does a wonderful job of balancing power to the wheels when it detects slip, its known as Cleaver because it chops the opposition down to size, with its sharp cutting edge technology. That makes it more capable on snowy roads than just about any other 4WD available at the time.

teddy481 i'm with you, get what you want. this is democracy what our soldiers worked for. You earn your money you spend it. probably a late model hyundi would be good. just go out and drive a few and see what you like. It might cost you a couple of coffees extra to run than a small car. Some commenting on here have there own agenda. Beware.

Yes, about one quality bought coffee every day if you they travel the national average km's per year. Personally I would rather use the money for an annual break to the Gold Coast which could easily be achieved on the saving, of course you would still get the extra comfort, safety and power etc for free. Good point about agenda's, mine is to try and wake up the NZ public and get them to do their own math. No one is forcing anything, we do however have a few who are trying desperately to suppress the facts.

Yep, use the savings for a trip to the Gold Coast. This may help you deal with the fact that you bought a Passat and the only person that gets to spend any time with it and reap the financial benefits is your mechanic.
jazz this is a personal want not a need , bit like buying a house . you like it and buy it. like buying shoes, you like them and buy them etc. if they were that desperate for monies I'm sure they wouln't be spaending $10,000 on any car because the depreciation would buy you that trip too if you bought a cheaper one. you got to remember some people have money to burn, the best thing they can do is spend it because you can't take it with ya.

Psst.! (They won't be buying a Passat)

LOL I am really just having a wind for a bit of fun. (although what I am saying does make a lot of sense) The problem with your theory is that they want to save money on fuel. In my experience those with money to burn are not usually stating economy as a key criteria. I agree though, some people do have money to burn and buy silly things for the hang of it, and fair enough too its their money after all.

Fair call jazz I want to buy the biggest 4x4 I can but want to know what the fuel use is. It is a dumb question I agree.

The Grand Vitara diesel has never come with a fiat motor. The original diesel back in the '90s was Mazda-based, then they changed to a Peugeot 2.0 litre, and subsequently a Renault 1-9 diesel. The pick of them is the Peugeot engine, but servicing costs are much higher than the petrol variant, in most cases wiping out any fuel savings.

Find me a reliability index that has both a Camry and a Passat first please.
Wow !Colt, Mazda 2, Yaris all get reliability down to awesome 20 (ish) and the lowly VW ToeRag gets a stonking 200+!

I'll take Jazz's silence as him conceding defeat.

Trying to get richard198 to understand statistics and that website would be like trying to teach quantum physics to a Chimpanzee.
He is just cherry-picking and taking things at face value. Not to mention trying to detract from the fact that the vehicle recommended in this thread has a very good reliability index rating.
It would be very easy to counter with arguments like the fact that the most reliable modern car with a sensible level of safety and features is in fact a Volvo (or at least was when I last checked).
I have drawn attention to that site many times, anyone with half a brain can see the vehicles I recommend regularly score very well and there are plenty of good European cars with very good reliability ratings. Even though they have more features and newer technology than the cut down Japanese go karts they compete against.

Statistics! I studied Statistics at Bristol University! What do you need to know!
Edit: You'll notice I'm refraining from using personal insults at the moment.

Why you would even try to compare a Colt, Mazda 2 and Yaris to a Toureg for a start.

If you look properly rather than cherry picking, it was a comparison between a landcruiser/prado and toureg and then a comparison between the punto you wank over anda yaris, jazz, colt and 2
