It seems that all the V8 horsepower freaks are diminishing & the rice brigade is taking over the streets. Years back I would've had no problems selling a supercharger or other various V8 performance parts, nowadays it seems to be a mission. Has the V8 era died off!. because lets face it, NOTHING sounds like a V8 and nothing performs like a V8 unless it's a Jappa that's had a squillion dollars spent on it. It seems that back in the day real men had real jobs, like builders or mechanics, now they all want IT jobs or a job where they wont break a nail or get dirty hands. In 10yrs time there will be a major shortage of qualified tradesmen to fix this junk they make today.

bulders and tradies now spend allthier money making thier hilux look bling.no money left for a v8 supercharger when you spent $4k on 20" chromies for the 'lux

i hear ya!you forgot to metion that despite a million bucks the jappa still makes no torque down low and breaks when seriously called upon.i think a lot of the guys who know the real benefit of starting with a decent sized engine are now being wrangled and emasculated by their women and spand their money on gay stuff like kitchens and home improvements etc

Yeah right! Real horsepower sounds like a v8, aye. Not the sound of those annoying Subaru boxers with a big bore driven by some gay hori, aye. Grow a mullet and grow up, that's what I say, oh, and get a black T shirt with Ford, or Chev or at least Triumph written on it. Yeah that's where the real horsepower is hidden now-a-days.

Petrols too expensive these days
guider1,

Never had a mullet. had a few black shirts in my younger days (Iron Maiden, ACDC). Obviously everyone goes to the drags or the circuit to listen to blow-off valves, screamer pipes & the hideous noise exiting big gay shiny fart cannons. not the V8's. lol. Tui anyone!
I guess to be cool today one needs a set of wheels that are worth 3 times the car they're on, a muffler the size of a 44 gallon drum which has been welded to a 2" system, no springs, no seat rails, 50kg of in-car audio with Lady Gaga blaring at distortion level & a pink or green sticker on the windscreen. sad days.
Edit* Oh yeah. I forgot the 20 litres of diesel squeazed in the boot beside the subs for when a skid is required.

I work in IT and drive a V8!
Why would I want to get my hands dirty!Soooo much easier to make a living this way.

And judging by your user name it's a real piece of steel with a real V8!
roadkillcafe,

the price of petrol is largely irrelevant, it basically requires x amount of petrol to make x amount of power, whether you force it into a peashooter engine with a hairdryer or it gets sucked in by the pistons of a n.a engine.

I sold the XC years ago :(Could have made lots of money if I kept it lol!Now it's a EB2.

I suspect it's due to being able to finance the Jap Turbo's much more easily than say a 671 Superchaged 70' Ford / Holden / Chev / Mopar. And although I agree on the price of gas, a high hp jap 2 litre will behave better and use gas while toddling around in the traffic than a V8 will. Although I can't say I've ever turned around to find where that fart cannon sound is coming from, but I often do if I hear a V8.

Also people probably get into the IT Industry because the pay is better ! (yes, I'm in the IT industry) ! Sadly I think there will be a shortage of people who can actually fix things on the older cars, and repair panels rather than just replacing them.Much easier to find Jap specialists / performance shops than V8 places.

v8 guys have herd a roomer aboutabout efi and turbosonly taking them how long lol

Ok, so you went prematurely bald (it's in the genes you know) and come from the Beavis and Butthead era, that's cool. What you say reminds me of the 'Pretty fly for a white guy' video clip. If it was NZ popular culture theywere mocking the 'wangster' (wannabe gangster) would be driving a Subaru Legacy wagon pumping sounds to distortion, aye

Don't need big speed add ons as the new generation of V8s are plenty fast, my brother can't believe how I get so much more HP from my VE 6.0L than his moded 350 Camaro.
guider1,

No sorry, wrong again. have all my hair & cant stand Beavis & Butthead. reminds me of little boyracer wannabes with their hoodies on while driving 'cos that's soooo cool. extrayda. funny you say that. any V8 can drive down the road & gets heads turning (if it has a decent exhaust), yet when a Jappa goes past with any exhaust only the teenyboppers will look; says it all really. clark20. you are absolutely correct. The LS series motors can make alot of extra HP with buggerall being done. Friends LS1 with single turbo at 17psi churns out 866rwhp & is still totally streetable. thirsty but streetable.

Yeah, a truism only an automotive-ingenue could come out with. The point being by putting a supercharger on a cars engine you then have a supercharged engine in your car, that shows a degree of artistic engineering ability, all else being irrelevant. And you can proudly rumble around the streets knowing you have a big cock but without showing your erection, geddit!
Or am I being too metaphorical!
guider1,

Another friend is just about finished his new car. powerplant is a Vortech blown LSX454 with 6spd. Should go pretty good in a 1250kg car I think.
guider1,
Sep 18, 7:09am
I think you'll find hyphen, that the roots style blowers are disappearing off streetcars due to our laws; where more & more V8's are going centrifugal superchargers or turbo setups. Nitrous has had it's day in NZ due to the obscene cost of filling bottles now. And I agree with what you said in part. turbocharging is the way to go, no doubt about it. My new engine is destined for turbos & so is my Commodore wagon. The ease of making power yet retain drivability is it's main vantage point.
extrayda,
Sep 18, 7:10am
hhmmm, yes to me an older car with a big 671 sticking out the bonnet somehow does much more for me than a modern commodore / falcon etc that may quite possibly be faster.Must just be the generation I grew up in.I like the supercharger through the bonnet / noise thing. In saying that, when I finally end up with another V8, chances are it will be a commdore / falcon with everything under the bonnet type deal.Depends on when and where you plan to use it.Weekend toy vs daily driver.I liked my weekend toy, but in the end got bummed out that I wasn't driving it enough.
extrayda,
Sep 18, 7:11am
haha, yes as per guider1's post above - thats probably where I will end up (but some years away now).
clark20,
Sep 18, 7:11am
Who's being a big cock! Any idiot can bolt on a supercharger (its not only master mechanics that can do it) but why do you need to show everyone else! Do you need to show off or something! Weeks dumbest reply goes to . Anyway answering #1 question, theres just less market for them these days as there are more varied performance options out there.
guider1,
Sep 18, 7:14am
I've had 2 roots blown cars & currently own a centrifually blown car but the new one will run turbos for sure. Reason being is I can make over 3000hp at the strip yet back it down to 1500hp on the street. an impossible task for a mechanically supercharged engine.
guider1,
Sep 18, 7:17am
Personally I got sick of keeping the blower pollished. what an ass of a job.
