Parked at Henderson Westfield today in a new 90 minute parking area, thinking I would be out in time.Took the family for lunch, the missus got a neck massage, the boys bought some lego, got the kids some new shoes for school and the missus bought a top.Elapsed time - approx 1hr 40.Found a $45 ticket for parking in their mall.
Arseholes.I'm really pissed.I've spent thousands in that mall over the years and they repay me with a fine.
I went into the office to strangle someone but they were closed.
I hope they have their security guards nearby for when I go back there to let some steam off.
The arseholes must have run over to my car while the fanbelt was still turning to chalk the tyre when we arrived.
And if someone here tells me I deserve the fine cos I was 10 minutes over, prepare yourself for an unpolite response.

In all seriousness. that is really pathetic of them and a very steep fee too :\ If your parked there, you are probably in the mall. spending money. Which is what they want, I would have thought!

every one wins the family purchased some things for them selves and you purchased a car park for 10 mins just dont forget to put your name there so everyone knows you purchased that spot

Atleased they didnt clamp you!( or did they) Clamping people imo really is a waist of time, coz. the only reason for time limits is to make people move for more people to visit. now. a clamp. that can cause more time to pass and less parking spaces to be available!

Sorry, what was the permitted time to park! and how long were you parked!

What legal basis do they have for enforcing such a ticket! It's not council property correct! You've not signed any contract agreeing to penalties. Presumably they'd try to claim that you agree to their terms simply by parking there but is there any legal precedent for that in NZ! Even if there is, is it really going to be worth their while suing you to enforce.!
I expect they just issue tickets on the hope that most are silly enough to just pay up.

Is it! Okay. but then the OP needs to deal with the council parking dept, not the office at the mall.
Clamps on a car in a P5 really gonna help get that park free, eh. On the other hand I'd support a ticket for someone parking for 60 mins in a P5. Selfish pricks.

the wheel clamps i have seen have a disc in the center to stop you undoing your wheel nuts.No i have not experienced them.Where is the 90 min parking there,is it the whole carpark building, never taken any notice.

If you packed yourselves a lunch, gave your wife a neck massage youself, bought some second hand lego off TM, you would of been out of there in about 45 min and probably saved a couple hundred dollars in the process, sounds like you got money to burn. what sort of car do you drive btw!

Screw up 'ticket' and throw on the floor of the mall when you go there next.

Yet another nail in Westfield's coffin. After Wilson Parking, they are the guys I love to hate.
I blame them for forcing retailers to buy cheap Chinese crap rather than slightly more expensive locally made, as the pressure and financial burden on retailers is just unbelieveable. How most survive I have no idea.
Examples from a former retailer who walked out.:Ratchet rent system - based on turnover. Means that if you do well (turnover, not profit!) your rent goes up. If they then develop another centre up the road (which they have done twice locally) and your turnover drops, which it will, hard luck, the rent stays the same.
Compulsory $100,000 minimum refit every six years whetherthe shop needs it or not. (That is $300 a week you have to put aside from your profits, which is going to mean about $1,000 turnover.)
Even if you get zero sales on the late nights - especially up to Christmas with midnight closing - you still have to open and presumably pay your staff.
That is only part of it.
I used to see all the daily sales turnover figures for a well known brand of menswear that used to be 100% Kiwi made - but now isn't. The Westfield based shops (most of them at that time) both here and in Aussie, made a loss for 45 weeks of the year.

Do not pay.
They have no legal justification for the "fine".
They will be quite insistent, but again, do not pay.

Just a question back if you didnt pay would they just put it through debt collectors (bay corp etc.)! And then you could have a time arrangement to pay off the fine like the courts do for traffic offenses.
craigsmith,

Debt collectors can only collect valid debts. Sending me a piece of paper telling me I owe you $45 for parking on your land for 10 minutes is not a valid debt.

Pay the fine for doing the time. Enjoy.

If they "chalked" your tire tell them to f*ck off. I'm just itching for one of our parking idiots to put chalk on my tire, will ring cops and say i just saw someone graffiti-ing private property, after all it's true and it is a criminal offence.
If your car has WOF & Reg' and there is money in the meter they have NO right to do anything to your car.
socram,

Like your thinking, but in reality, chalk just wipes off. By the time you have moved, the evidence has disappeared.
The unfortunate thing is that by boycotting Westfields, it doesn't hurt them, just the poor retailers.
We need a method of directly targetting Westfield as an organisation.

Read they were going to start doing this - bastards.
Poor retailers are going to get hammered.

If they want people to pay for parking, stick a toll booth up.

I really feel for the retailers who have no choice but to become part of something they had no part in creating. If they chose to stay out on the street in Henderson they'd be screwed in most cases. Once they're in that mall their margins are gone.

I was given $150 worth of Westfield vouchers for Xmas. I am going to tear them up ! That'll teach them !
