Ouch - hadn't read that one.

Y'know, this should really be an Aussie bashing thread - isn't Westfield Australian!

socram, Jan 16, 5:21pm
This has turned into an anti accountants thread!Tee hee. "Barnacles on the bum of progress" was how one of my audience at an conference described them after I had a dig during my speech.

Sorry about the spelling Papa. It's Sunday.Day of rest.

farmboy11, Jan 16, 5:24pm
If the retailers pack up and leave cause no one shops there it'll hurt them.
But yea best bet is to target the ARSEHOLE directors.
Fined for parking while shopping at their shops.WHAT A JOKE.

aragorn2003, Jan 16, 5:25pm

We have a little Hermit like fella who issues tickets for the council here in New Plymouth and likes to hang around the Winz and IRD offices, I watched the little prick, he watches cars and if he see's the people heading into Winz he scurries out of his little hidy hole and races over to the car to check for rego's, if the rego is out thats $200 for the council thank you very much. I saw another ticketing cars in one of the warehouse carparks which i know the warehouse owns, i said to him "Oi you cant ticket people here its on private land" to which his reply was " Eff off i can do whatever i Effen well like", Lucky no one has belted him.yet

FU*K I would have given him a right walloping

Sad isn't it.

Public transport is totally crap unless your only destination is the local CBD and your shopping consists of nothing more than a book of stamps.

So most shoppers use the car so that they can actually shop. By the time you have had a shop, coffee/brunch, queued at the Post Office or bank, maybe had a haircut and a browse, picked up a bag or three of veg or groceries, the last thing you want to be doing is looking at your watch every 5 minutes.

Locally, the maximim you can park in the council park is 120 minutes and the shopping centre isn't much better.

Lost count of the number of abbreviated catch ups with friends at a local cafe that have been terminated early as we need to shift the car.

At least our on street parking is 60 minutes and no parking meters so we should be grateful for that.Council rates even for a small shop in a shopping strip are hundreds of dollars a month. You'd think that parking would be easy for the customers. Its all anti retailer.

n i spose all the other parking company's are owned by the KKK's or skinheads because they are white's with the same ambition! perhaps u should get out of this country n do some travelling. there are many western businesses owned by europeans that are based in HK. HK used to be a british colony before being reinstated back to the chinese. ever noticed alot of non asian people with surnames lee and young or park around!

n1smo_gtir, Jan 16, 11:28pm
don't rip it up, take $10 or 20 in at a time, buy something small n get rest change in cash. many are happy to do that, ask first though. if for every $10, u gt $8 back in coins n notes, u should have only spent $30 in total.

n1smo_gtir, Jan 16, 11:37pm
i worked for a retailer in a westfield mall a long while ago. they charged staff $4 a day in parking, during christmas period, majority of those got kicked out n had to find parks on street. ironically the mall was far from busy, everyday those parks that would have earned $4 was sitting empty for nearlly 2mths, we talking at least 120 parking spaces. cust didn't use them cos throughout the yr, it's always full by 9am so most just assumed its staff only. at cust service desk u always see angry custy going off at the reception about been clamped for 5-10mins under or over. piles of receipts gets shoved in the receptionist faces to show all the purchases they just made.

spead, Jan 17, 5:33am
shut up and pay up.end of story

aragorn2003, Jan 17, 5:47am

#49 - Spot on biker. What was their loss!

I can't remember any parking restrictions in the states at their massive malls.Apart from the disabled spots, there shouldn't be any restrictions other than to prevent people parking all day and catching public transport into town, but even then, the council should be encouraging that anyway, so maybe the car parking should always be a joint venture with the councils!

The Northern Busway is the classic example. They build a $43 million busway and the car parking is full before 8am.

trogedon, Jan 17, 6:36am
Good on Westfield for fining people. If there were no fines some people (not the OP of course) would park there all day and so there would be less opportunity for others to use the parking. There needs to be a time limit and there needs to be an incentive to not overstep that. Just pay the fine.

net_oz, Jan 17, 9:18am
Quote biker. They haven't fined anyone - they simply don't have the power. They've invoiced them and they cannot justify the invoice - you'd be a damned fool to pay it.

Why can they not do this!
They will have signs up to say how long the parking is for etc. By going onto their property, surely you are agreeing to abide by their rules.
This happens with everything we do and everywhere we do it.

socram, Jan 17, 10:50am
Amen to that. What is the famous quote!"For evil to triumph, all it needs is for the righteous to do nothing." (Or something similar.)

If incorrectly parked in a disabled spot, by all means tow them away, but otherwise, no damage done just a pointless anti-customer attack.

rsr72, Jan 17, 12:29pm
Yep, it's illegal if issued by Westfield.

elect70, Jan 17, 12:45pm
That all I got stung$150 for parking in disabled park ( they have 4 & 10 normal parks) at Councilcarpark all normal parks full & all disable empty , 5 minutes was all it took in pay rates & out,fat cow meter maid was just walking away with smirk on her fat face .

jono2912, Jan 17, 1:46pm
I have no sympathy.

20498, Jan 17, 2:42pm
+1 same.

johnf_456, Jan 17, 2:53pm
What part of disabled don't you understand, or perhaps we need to make you disabled lol. Simple stop been lazy and walk like everyone else, you are not special from anyone else. Ever had anyone in your life that is disabled! Probably not, cause you would not park there.

No sympathy at all

richardmayes, Jan 17, 3:15pm
Different issues. Using the disabled parks if you are not disabled is just low. And the Malls have a legal obligation to provide a certain number of these spaces.

However a shop or an organisation of shops ticketing its own customers who are using its own car park deserves nothing but contempt. Don't pay it. And don't shop there. Fight the shopping mall fungus!
