Yep, i know all this, yet NZ fcuks around doing anything trying to enforce it, no cameras on approach to any school crossing, no AU$80 fine for doing over 40kph through a school crossing, no flashing strobe lights on any school bus-town or country.
Oh we're so sorry you lost your son or daughter because we don't have the money to do any of this - yet we can chuck $20 million at a yacht race.
Update: The latest news is that there is a petition in NZ to sign making it mandatory for all school buses to be fitted with flashing strobe lights and 20kph signs that activate/deploy when the bus stops.

Yep, it's because no one knows about it, 20kph pass a bus! When did this happen! If they had the same enforcement with this and drink driving - then people would know.

Thats a awesome idea ^
Its about time we got stuck into these speedsters.
if a kid crosses the rd in front of a car without looking yes it is the kids fault it dosent matter if the driver is doing the speed limit or half the limit. i just had a look at the rd code and could not find anything abought a 80kph limit around rural schools got a link! but yep plenty "forget" the 20kph limit as soon as thay pass there licence theory test (im sure it was 30 when i got mine) if only parents got out of the car and crossed the rd to wait for there child then cross the rd with them

If the police were chasing you they would not slow down till you crashed, do they really care about safety or are they mindless tax collectors!.only a question not an opinion

even 50 can be to fast if kids are around common sence and caution around kids at all times i say, no matter what the posted limit is and original poster should pay up and shut up

Gosh an old thread dredge :) and I agree 50 is to quick in some cases. In Australia 40k limits are everywhere, its as simple as you do the crime you do the time. After having a good friend of mines daughter get hit by car at 45k even then its not pretty. For the sake of a few k vs a life time of stress, money and a record why risk it.

This is a real problem. Some townships have very poor signage and some area's that look like 100km/h but are not don't have signs often enough so you think you have missed one.
Not having adequate speed signage is of no help to anyone (except the revenue collectors) and certainly does nothing for road safety, which is supposed to be the point.
I got pinged in one such area which I was unfamiliar with. I did everything right, I even had my GPS set to warn me if I was over the limit.
It turned out the cop was sitting in an area that had just had a speed change and was having a lovely time pinging everyone who was coming out of a side road where the new 100km/h sign was obscured and also not of the usual size.
People can only be expected to do whats fair and reasonable, we shouldn't have to be scanning every bit of bush/tree in case its in the way of a sign.

its alright to go faster than 50
because drivingonly becomes dangerous once you hit 101 km/h

There is a big clue to tell you that you are ina 50km area in the Ruapehu area!Street Lights and Buildings.my next question is where was it you got caught exactly!

No symptahy suck it up pay the $30 penalty and if its a photo post it on here for us to laugh at you :)if it was a cop well good on the cop and 10 demerits for the risk you placed on the kids and before anyone starts speed passing a school and expect a brick through your window if no cop is about.

do you really see 56 km/h as being ok because its under 100 !
you realise that the reason we have such pathetic speed laws & policing is because people like yourself cannot keep a lid on things untill they are in the right place & time

24th september was like 12 days ago but then I guess if people can not work that out they struggle with the speedo readings as well.lol

pfft. I know the exact spot this post is about. The local plods are frequently there. The spot they ping you on is a highschool, and there is easily 5m clear visibility to the side of the road. It's no better/worse than any other spot.I'll bet half the people they get are actually students there, not some evil speedsters the kids need protecting from.
