The people who wont overtake

Page 1 / 3
wrong2, Nov 8, 4:53pm
why do they insist on not leaving a gap behind those they follow so others can get past them !

wrong2, Nov 8, 4:55pm
& why are they so frequently the first car in the line

ralphdog1, Nov 8, 4:56pm
If they are the first car in the line who are you wanting them to overtake, your imaginary friend!

therafter1, Nov 8, 5:53pm
More importantly, why do you never see them being hauled over and ticketed as they are committing a traffic offence by not providing sufficient space for other vehicles wishing to pass to move into . incompetent morons, that's what they are, and not only are many of them incompetent morons but they also seem to think that they have priority in respect of the next opportunity to pass, an opportunity which to many of them seems to be the next passing lane or the first available 2 k'm long straight without another vehicle in sight.

tortron, Nov 8, 6:29pm
my truck does 80kph flat out.The people who wont pass me, even when i indicate, pull entirely off the road and motion for them to do so, is shocking

therafter1, Nov 8, 6:34pm
So you said . lol

therafter1, Nov 8, 6:34pm
The perils of copy and paste !

wrong2, Nov 8, 6:35pm
its like if theres no extra passing lane, they wont overtake

people are getting more willing to just follow

fryan1962, Nov 8, 6:56pm
My ute does 100 klm flat outso I have to sit behind then get to passing lane my big moment then they speed up from 90klm to 100klm

fordcrzy, Nov 8, 7:13pm
i was towing a large trailer with the van last week and was being very careful not to hold people up.the number of TOTAL MUPPETS who didnt get the fact that i was pulling WAY over to the left and dropping my speed a bit to let them pass was beyond beleif.one car i nearly ended up pushing into oncoming traffic as the shoulder ran out despite having about 500m of shoulder before hand.it tok them that long to realise i was letting them past.DUMBASS!

mm12345, Nov 8, 7:33pm
This is completely normal. When they finally get past and wave thanks, do you wave back!
I was about to one time - the one finger salute - but was distracted by the sight in my passenger side rear view mirror of one of my trailer tyres exploding as it hit potholes on the road edge. This was to prevent the idiot from killing innocent oncoming traffic.
Now , eff 'em all.I'll eventually pull over and stop when there's a few cars behind, and it's safe.Until then, they can wait.If they show signs of passing in an unsafe place, I'll shift right a bit to discourage them.

mrfxit, Nov 8, 7:53pm
When towing big loads or generally just not in a hurry. I will pull over when it's safe to do so for EVERYBODY

smac, Nov 9, 5:36am
Note for you guys who think you are doing the right thing by pulling over: INDICATE!

I guess I am one of the muppets who doesn't pass because too many times the guy who is pulling left will then pull right without warning or reason. If somebody is trolling along the left curb, but not indicating, I leave them there (unless I am in a car that can do it very quickly). How hard is it to stick the blinker on to show you are letting people through, and not just being one of the countless idiots who randomly use all of the road between the centre line and the grass, with no idea who or what is going on behind you.

You may be feeling helpful, but I'm not psychic.

r15, Nov 9, 6:17am
you guys forgot to mention that guy who crawls along the main road at 70k in a 100 zone, then by the time you're finished passing them your doing 140 and only just getting past them, and i think a lot of them do it sub conciously, apart from the ones in subies, evos, skylines, falcons and commodores, who suddenly realize they are driving the fastest racing car on the road and need to be in front

modie61, Nov 9, 6:20am
I find that not enough drivers that are slow pull over to the left,i think their skills as drivers are very poor.

crzyhrse, Nov 9, 9:17am
What choice do they have! Many places that are perfectly safe to overtake are now sporting yellow lines.

smac, Nov 9, 9:39am
Got any examples crzyhrse! Not trying to start an argument, I'm genuinely curious. I haven't noticed any where I drive, but this issue keeps popping up so I'm keen to see what they're on about.

richardmayes, Nov 9, 9:53am
smac comment #15 is spot on - just because someone veers a little bit to the left side of the road, you do not just automatically pull out and start to pass them without first deciding for yourself whether you have room to complete the pass.

But on the original topic, I'm sorry but I don't quite understand why this is worth a whole whinge thread! Yes brain-dead, scared, inept followers who are incapable of overtaking are a nuisance.

So just whip out and pass them both. Most cars on the road have better performance than my old thing, and yet I manage this.!

trogedon, Nov 9, 11:32am
I can't think of any places that I go that have unnecessary yellow lines.

poppajn, Nov 9, 4:06pm
I passed a 3 to 4 ton Isuzu truck owned by a nationwide glass company today at Chertsy, he was well over on the shoulder of the road, hazard lights on, travelling about 25k, both left rear tyrers blown, hope he was,nt trying to get to Ashburton. I saw blown truck rubber away up the road in two different spots.

fordcrzy, Nov 10, 5:38am
the matata/pikowai straights is a good example.theres a stretch of road with over ONE KILOMETER of visible road and yet they have yellow lines for a bout 200meters of it stopping people from passing.this is where some revenue gathering cop sits and busts people for crossing the yellow.GRRRRR

megaccino, Nov 10, 4:07pm
When I was driving a 4berth campervan for a week noone would pass me. I realise how annoying campervans are to be behind, especially on hills and thus acted like the most considerate campervan driver ever. Whenever I got a straight, clear stretch, I'd pull over as far as I could. Sometimes would drop down to 70-80km (usually drove at 100) and still cars would not overtake! Why!!! Usually it would be a car 4 or 5 places back that would give in and pass (highly illegal). I guess all my followers were tourists or old follk.

Time to join the traffic infringement department.

jeffqv, Nov 10, 6:59pm
Indicate. Hmmm, thats something most drivers wouldn't have a clue of how to do. Except of course when they have started the process and then indicate to let you know they have just cut you up.

fordcrzy, Nov 10, 7:09pm
Didn't you learn your new zealand road code. It clearly states."brake, THEN Indicate"

:)
