I don't think it has anything to do with your car - I've noticed the same type of behaviour no matter what I'm driving

I definitely notice it more in the mini than in the Astra or work cars. Joke's on them when I pass on the next hill.

Yes it definatly depends on what you are driving. I drive anything from 1948 to a 1967 and a 1972 and a 1996, when I drive the 1948 long distance everyone has to boot it past you on an overtaking lane. I can do 100kms all day and its funny watching the fizza's drop off up a long hill but they all must pass the "slow old car"

So what do we do barrier the whole of the country! Desert Rd, SH1 between Auckland and Wellsford, and SH2 south of Pokeno has it fair share of head ons as well. A wire rope barrier is a knee jerk reaction and doesn't solve the real problem, Driver attitudes is the issue here. At the same time I have never seen the point of both of those passing lanes, they should have been scrapped long ago and then maybe this whole thing would never have happened.

every time I have come across a situation like this, there is always an alternative route through side roads. the detour is always well sign posted. never seen a situation where they gridlock traffic.

Its obviously the roads fault because I drove through there today and the whole overtaking lane has been coned off so its 1 lane either way and its now 80kms from sth of Waikanae right through to south of Paraparaumu and is to remain that way FOREVER. Well thats more than "knee jerk" reaction and no-doubt decided by a jerk of a different nature. Be 80kms through New Zealand next and that will save us all from ourselves.Yea Right.
