Do Harley Davidsons hold their value!

Harley dont change much. Most model tweaking year to year is centred around cosmetic changes, which suits its sales base as they are more steered by brand and image than bike. (and are able to update or customize there bikes themselves)
So year to year, since last years model isnt that different from next year, and they tend to be well kept, gently ridden and "timeless", the bikes dont depreciate compared to other companys models that might gain 15hp, shed kilos and handle better and look very differentbetween years.
This is a problem for harley in new bike sales as buyers see little advantage new models, and due to overproduction, harley could be looking at differcult times in the long run

toys do not hold their value, like boats, bikes,(w#$an) as they get older they lose value hahaha

Ive never worked out what the attraction is with them. They make a lot of noise, dont handle and cost a fortune to buy and keep serviced. Never been tempted. I ride a CB900 hornet as a comuter every day and it never misses a beat, regular services and new tyres once a year. I often look at trading it but just cant decide what to replace it with on the same budget.
I suppose you could always use the HD as a coffee tablebut even then it sits on an angle and coffee would spill. It would be nice to have a garage full of options but cost of registration, insurance and maintenance is too prohibitive.

Buy a 2007 dyna wide glide last year before they went to shit first of the 1584cc motorfuel injected one year only .the 2008 model were one colour brown black .

more than liklely however i dont ride my hd on gravel if i can help it the belts are just to damn dear

Most large modern road bikes (as in bandit, vulcan, ZX10 and so on) are not made for or suitable for gravel and therefore shouldnt be excpected to do so. they have a whole lotta other bikes that do both quite well though, geez I dont even take my car on gravel unless I have to, messy stuff gets everywhere.
I was watching a 1968 movie the other day about the Hells Angles and I couldnt believe how little the out ward appearance of some of the Harleys hadnt really changed alot. I guess if it wasnt broken they didnt change it.
And I wouldnt take a large Harley on gravel either

Mate bought a fat boy harley new in 08,his wife told him too lol,he had cruisers so for his 50th was told to buy one.He survived cancer losing an eye, this meant his vision to read speedo etc was hampered, the cruiser suited them.Went with them on 200km cruise from the naki to Te Kuiti, aside from Mt Messenger we rode close together, both 2 up,my bandit had him in twisties but not by much, was and is a nice bike,we joke he paid $28g for 2 bike shirts and the shop chucked in his bike for free.

Ran a belt for 8 -10years on me Softail then converted to a big meaty chain just for peace of mind since I did ride a lot on gravel back then.

i-n-horz, Jan 9, 7:05am
Funny that.I always thought the sound was optional upon choice and as for handling I know of a few guys who ride their HD's as swift and as fast on the twisties etc as a sports machine.
Maintenance: an oil filter, motor oil and trans oil no great expense really, if you run a belt no maintenance needed apart from a visual check and tension I run a chain and keep it lubed periodically.owned my HD for 23+yrs without missing a beat from the bottom of the south to the top of the north numerous times, apart from a battery failure (exploded) however the bike still got me home.she must be one in a million ;)

There are a lot of guys that go through MLC so Harleys are popular,

I have never ridden one, I bought a bike suited to the type of ridding I was doing

I would say like cars.I never buy new and I also do research in to what I buy

like all investments no guarantee of return

richard198, Jan 9, 7:19am
What do Harley's and Blue heelers have in common!
They both like a ride home in the ute after a day in the country!

fryan1962, Jan 9, 7:26am
Harleys come in MLC black

mid life crisis .black

drog, Jan 9, 7:28am
H-D. The only vintage bike you can buy brand new.

sabbath-black, Jan 9, 9:37am
are you retarded!.they have been making reliable bikes since the 80's.they hold their value as well as anything, and handle like most other cruisers.

tonyrockyhorror, Jan 9, 9:46am
Image, mostly, from the ones I've known.

richard198, Jan 9, 10:00am
I.E. badly!

sabbath-black, Jan 9, 10:05am
.they handle ok, ground clearance is the biggest problem but cornering at the speed limit is fine.push them though and they will be no worse than anything else pushed out of their comfort zone.

richard198, Jan 9, 10:14am
Which is small compared to bikes that handle well.

sabbath-black, Jan 9, 10:16am
.well der!

richard198, Jan 9, 12:41pm
So you DO agree that HD's don't handle as well as some other bikes!
Why did you feel the need to insult me!

i-n-horz, Jan 9, 8:53pm
In all my years of riding I've never put my HD down it gives me the lay back and cruise vibe, the smell the cut grass take in the scenery kind'a thing where as the GSX1100 I owned sat me on a rocket of rebellion and speed I loved it also but like most things that push the boundaries you could only do it for so long before you get bitten.yep I got bit.
My HD handles perfectly for my needs and I can say better than a few other bikes I've owned.each to their own though and on any given day if all I had was 2 wheels beneath me I'd be happy no matter what it was.

richard198, Jan 9, 9:03pm
Any bike is better than no bike!
Some of my mates get along really well on their HD's.
One day soon, I'll have to retire the Ducati but not sure what to replace it with yet!

i-n-horz, Jan 9, 9:18pm
That's gonna be hard to do rich198, I've always wanted one (Ducati) but with my bones it would have to be a motard.then my brain wouldn't keep up with it's pace.lol.looks like until the end of days are gonna be on me lead sled ;)

kevymtnz, Jan 10, 5:42am
noisy unrelieable bits of scape metal with 2 wheels
worth nothing
