MBG is the one that would go for

bitsy_boffin, Mar 11, 3:44pm
As an investment!I don't think so.Amazing cars for the price you pay for them these days, don't get me wrong, but not for an investment in my opinion.

If I was investing in a Mazda. RX-2, 3, 4, and 7 up to series 5.The 2, 3 and 4 are already up there in value, butI like the RX7 series 4 & 5 styling, they scream "80s supercar" to me, and the pricing is still quite low.

The Mitsubishi Starion also is on my "investment potential" list.

If only I had a big garage :-(

Edit to add: I think once you are into the Series 6 and 7 RX-7, the prices are probably still coming down.

woody1946, Mar 11, 3:44pm
You probably mean MGB, but I doubt you would get a good one for $10,000

cathair, Mar 11, 3:47pm
the carpets will be replaced and possibly the dash. needs new running gear. SLE model

ginga4lyfe, Mar 11, 3:52pm
you can still get a Nice Fiat x1/9 for that money! and id put that money on that too!

jason18, Mar 11, 3:53pm
get an aussie 6

moosie_21, Mar 11, 4:17pm
Tell him to give me the money, I'll put it in the stockmarket and make more money than he ever could waiting around for it to "mature" in a car for 15-20 years.

socram, Mar 11, 4:19pm
I think you will! Sold mine for a fair bit less than that.Plenty around, but hardly an Aussie V8!The advantage is that all parts are available and are likely to be available long term.

My concern with more recent cars becoming classics is that any with moulded carpets/headlinings or anything with a computer in it, is probably a long term worry.

hotrodtodd1, Mar 11, 4:48pm
I would go for a 300zx too. Get the twin turbo 2 seater, and his choice of manual or auto. The 2 seater will be more likely to appreciate in value, tho a 2 seater manual has probably been flogged like the proverbial red headed step kid.

I had a 2+2 one some years ago and replaced it with a VT Calais 5.0 with all the toys, and the Nissan was way quicker and way more fun to own & drive. Repairs arent too bad either. If hes game, a 928S Porsche could be another V8 experience for him.

grangies, Mar 11, 4:51pm
Too dangerous!

They'll get carpet burn!

sw20, Mar 11, 5:07pm
They are cheap because they are rubbish.

Toyota got it right with the AW11 MR2, where Fiat failed with the X1/9.

grangies, Mar 11, 5:16pm
LOL.

The AW10/11 MR2's are just as much rubbish.

They were built in the mid 80's and the sheet metal had mostly disintegrated by the mid 90's, forcing most of them to the scrap yard for recycling.

sw20, Mar 11, 5:50pm
260,000 AW11's sold around the world in five years time. The X1/9 didn't even get to 160,000 in nearly 20 years of archaic construction.

ceedoubleyou, Mar 11, 6:08pm
I'm toying with the idea of a Porche 928, but the $1400 service cost scares me a bit. 359809552

grangies, Mar 11, 6:12pm
Still very poorly built though. Cheap off the showroom room floor from new.

The reason they sold so well, was due to their great, new-age, sports car looks.

Little did the new buyer know, that their new babies would only last 10 or so years before the body cancer would set in and destroy them.

grangies, Mar 11, 6:17pm
Looks nice condition.

There must have been repairs carried out, on top of the service, to come to $1400 .

sunwest, Mar 11, 6:17pm
Old holden pre 70"s in orig cond.

directorylist, Mar 11, 6:30pm
Personally i think MX-5's are probably a good bet.

mike107, Mar 11, 6:38pm
1973 Colt Galant GTO.

hotrodtodd1, Mar 11, 6:43pm
That Valiant wagoon with the 360 should tick most of his boxes.

jason18, Mar 11, 9:22pm
That ticks and tickles my boxes

foxdonut, Mar 11, 9:51pm
Factory Modified will always be the most desirable. That is, a car that was built but then finished by an aftermarket or specc'd out by the original builder. Examples: Bauer, Vanden Plaas, Ruf, Hartge, Pininfarina, Koenig Specials, HSV, FPV etc

I wouldn't imagine any stick on bits would add any value, perceived or actual to an otherwise standard car.

foxdonut, Mar 11, 9:57pm
Voted by Road & Track, Car and Driver, Wheels Magazine and Motor Trend as top 10 cars including top 10 sports cars of all time.

Yeah, a real failure. They also rust and fall apart, thats why you still see plenty going for sale with over 200k on the dial.

foxdonut, Mar 11, 9:59pm
Get a Golf VR6. I'd suggest a Merc 190E but its impossible to find one that hasn't been riced out and ruined.

Or save and buy a 911.

stevo2, Mar 12, 4:22am
Early MX5 or most 2 door Jap coupes like Mitzi Colt, 240Z, SR coupe.
Its the sporty image that makes these cars more attractive to those that have the spare coin for a collectable car.
Cheers Stevo
