athe standard of driving is also much higher there.

^^^I dare say the Roman roads were probably not designed with the dynamics of high-speed cornering in mind! The first German autobahn construction in the 1920s and 30s was the beginning of proper high speed highways.
If you compare the Autobahn as it was in 1930, with the NZ SH1 as it was in 1930, you might start to see the fallacy in saying that just because higher speeds are ok in Europe, it follows that we could have them here too.

our roads are already fine at 120
wrong2,
Jun 10, 2:29pm
i doubt you have proof of this
the test resuklts ive seen in mags & such show 100 is generally the sweet spot the manufacturers tune into cars
richardmayes,

Fixed that for you, wrong2!

true that
especially in modern cars - the roads are fine
the average kiwi however . . . . . . .

Maybe some but certainly not all or most.

the road to raglan is 100 km/h
the 6 lane motorway out of auckland is 100 km/h
this is the level of stupid your cheerleading john

Yes those roads but they are not the only roads in nz, but really 120 will never happen even 110 would be pushing it.

I have but regardless not many of the roads in nz are suitable for 120, most nz roads are single lane highways that twist. Oh and I was born here so go figure.

Having driven in Romania, I have no issues with NZ roads. Our roads are in a constant state of improvement, with (unfortunately) many of the interesting twisty bits get re-aligned out of existance. Drive from Chch to Dunedin, and see how straight and fast the road is, compared with only 10 tears ago.

Try driving in places like Seoul/Inchon in Korea or Surabaya in Indonesia. I dont think they have road rules in those places lol, Scary stuff when i was there

And for the confused, 10 tears = 10 years :)

I don't mind the limit, I mind how it's policed and that is with total lack of common sense in most cases. I can live with 100, I often cruise at 80 if not holding people up and the V8 is burbling nicely at just above idle but if I cruise past a cop I don't want to be hassled over a silly numbers game if there is clearly no one around, a wide road and dry conditions for sake of 6 or 7 km/h. That really burns my knickers.

Can you explain how partially more throttle and a reasonable difference in drag can equal a more economical car!
wrong2,
Jun 11, 4:28pm
if you cant keep a car under PERFECT control at 120 on 90% of our nations highways - then you dont deserve to share the road
your driving skill is beyond abysmal . 120 is nothing - especially in a modern car

I Debate wat yr saying bout not having late model cars, all cars from 1980 onwards are late model, not a single change, all cars are 4valves,twin cam, turbo, injected. No change for 31years.
johnf_456,
Jun 11, 4:43pm
Not really "most" cars were single cam and carby in the 80 and to some extent the mid 90's for the majority of cars in NZ.
wrong2,
Jun 11, 4:44pm
dude - your so off the mark why even bother posting
take 10 average family cars from 1980 & ten from 2010
the difference will be undeniable
wrong2,
Jun 11, 4:46pm
thats true
im just calling you on being an incapable & pathetically useless based on travelling at much slower , & much higher speeds in a variety of modern & old cars & bikes
if you think 120 is dangerous your completely out of touch with reality

For once I agree with you, obviously someone else as been smoking too much of that green stuff.

Our roads are pretty shocking these days so raising the speed limit probably is not a good idea. I hit bumps in my car at 100km.h and wonder how they get away with such shit, I would hate to hit the same bump at 120km/h. I would bend a rim or something. Plus, 100km/h is ok, just seems no one can even do that these days.

yeah - your definantly suffering a delusion of competance
