How much time does the new Taupo bypass save?

Mind you dude every time I head to the capitol of NZ I scratch my head that the main way in and out is a single lane road round the coastline.

Ditto - exactly the same result.it is 15km's approx in length.

Interestingly we did this on the Monday morning of Labour weekend. As we headed out to the Broadlands onramp, we noticed a car towing a distinctive race car heading down Spa Road into town.We got on at Broadlands, headed south to the southern roundabout, and then did the whole highway to Wairakei.Guess who was coming onto the roundabout - the car towing the race car.

We learnt about 10 years ago, thru a real estate agent, if you want to get into or out of Taupo during a long weekend, coming from north go left towards Rotorua, and then across the Aratiatia Dam and into Taupo,or from south or Napier, go across Crown Road.Never ever thru town.

I think that during major holidays we will still experience bottlenecks in Taupo, because there is a huge number (1000's) of holiday homes in Taupo, and people do like to stop there for lunch/dinner breaks.

When doing akl-wgtn if not strapped for time I now usually go over Napier-Taupo rd and drive thru the Hawkes Bay/Wairarapa, some good scenery and only an extra 100km so it is worth missing out on Foxton south.
As for Taupo I'll still drive thru there over the summer months, is a good perv.
