I want ideas :)

Thanks for the epic post dude, and I would love doing something like that but
1. I don't have money, I'm a poor uni/tec student, and
2. The Accord has done 288,000 Kms. I fear the auto transmission is on it's way out (jerky shifts and slips) and I don't want to sink a s**tload of money into it when I know deep down the moment I think the trannies about to die I'll probably flick it off for hopefully more than I paid for it.

michael.benn, May 9, 7:40pm
melissa you've been incredibly helpful. I thank you for your help ;)

My stereo consists of a Phillips CEM2000 head unit and two 6x9 JVC speakers at the rear (very, very nice quality speakers.). I think front speakers are still stock though.

I'll be incredibly honest . I don't know nearly as much about cars as I want to, but I think I do okay. You'll actually find me in the Computing section of the message board, haha. I want to be able to customize my car one day like I can customize my computers. Where would be the best place to start ! Tinker around ! Haha.

This'll sound silly, but I want my car to sound really beast. Will the new exhaust do this or am I referring to what you call a "fart cannon" lol.

Hmm. In that case, new shocks all round and a transmission service, no point wasting coin on cosmetic stuff if the the cars just going to pack it in.

If you're really desperate the SiR sport body kit might fit straight on (!)

My A series powered EX Accord went on to 380k and change on the dials, it was only rust in the pillars that finally ended it, same clutch and everything.

Your Accord will probably still be kicking in a few years time, but if its going to pack a sad you're better off just driving it and keeping it on life support than ricing it out and leaving more bits for people to nick when you have to leave it parked up while you walk home.

Think of it as a 1100 dollar Dell desktop machine. Great, if you use it for its intended purpose. Start adding high spec graphic cards and watercooled cpu's and you're just going to get bottlenecks on the mb.

Shit, the best thing you can do is simply keep it clean and tidy - learn how to apply polish and wax and teach yourself how to fix small dents and stone chips before you go after the magazine style show pony things all the kids are into these days.

I didn't plan on getting another Honda . nothing against them, I just keep getting dissed. People don't seem to like Honda's in this country.
EDIT ( I was born in NZ and have lived here my entire life, I just saw how what I wrote looked on the page haha, I'm a Hamiltonian living in Auckland atm)

I really think this Accord is awesome though =] If you hadn't guessed, it's my first car. MAYBE I'm over-reacting. If say the rest of the car is bloody tops and the only thing that goes is the transmission, is there anyway to cheaply replace the tranny without spending a bloody fortune !

Also, I'm keen on visual modifications that I can bring to my next car, if that makes any sense. Stuff I can swap over to the next one.

foxdonut, May 9, 7:59pm
The only reason people bad mouth Honda's are because of the loud mouth idiot Honda drivers that go on and on (and on and on and on and on.) about useless shit like "HP per litre" and the "Integra Type R is the fastest car in its class".

Honda's are great for getting around in, but if you want cred with all the racers or motor heads, then yeah, you're not likely to get it in a Honda.

michael.benn, May 9, 8:03pm
What would you suggest my next car be !

Actually, scratch that, that question is ridiculously subjective.

I want a 1967 Chevy Impala =(

richardmayes, May 9, 8:34pm
H22a swap, then go from there.

When you are over it the car will still be a shitty old Honda Accord not worth anything, but your trick engine parts will retain some value.

michael.benn, May 9, 8:43pm
Thanks for dissing my car richardmayes. I really appreciate it.

It's not shitty, and it's not THAT old. But thanks for your helpful post.

I remember my first car and seriously. if its about to drop its guts (or trans) then keep the money aside for a replacement trans.Accept that you aren't going to make much if any money on it unless gran gave it to you for free.Putting alloys and tints on car don't really increase its value on here I find, just give you the edge over another Accord for sale. assuming that its done nicely, thats to say no chromes, and keeping it legal.I see its an auto so having a loud exhaust is a no no.There are few things that look and sound as lame as a young guy nailing his car from the lights only to hear the car doing the "hard stuff" for him.

Basically, if you plan on keeping it. keep some money aside for a trans, throw some nice 17's on it, legal tints and don't cover it in crap.Avoid going into auto parts stores like Repco with a fistful of $5 notes cos you will walk out with a can of spraypaint for the calipers, some tacky airfreshner and some "annodized" valve caps that will disappear either over the weekend or next time it goes for tyres. All these "mods" are to be avoided.

Don't try and make a donkey a racehorse, buy a racehorse when you can afford it.

michael.benn, May 10, 8:14pm
I've decided on some legal tints and some nice 17" wheels when I can afford them. Thank you for all the help guys and gals =]

foxdonut, May 10, 8:57pm
Make sure you can afford the tread to go on them too. It's easy for people to get a set of wheels and rubber from Mag and Turbo on finance but come time for some new shoes many of them are still paying off the last pair. 'specially if you get some fancy soft compound performance things that only do 15k before coming apart.

Remember - its better and more economic on the gas bill to have good 15 inch boring tires that last and grip well vs cheap-o 17 inch Chinese shit that spalds up after a few weeks of driving and skids up worse than your undies when it rains.

johnf_456, May 10, 9:00pm
Yup has others have said, basics first.

scoobeey, May 10, 9:44pm
Blardy classic! Will be in my car nxt week!

ct9a, May 11, 6:29am
i carnt understand everyone sugesting exhaust/header mods when its a auto.

all it needs is 17 or 18" wheels

do not go 16 tyre prices are crazy

buy a quality spring, not a king/cobra/lovell or any of that rubbish

security tint and leave it at that

matthew111, May 11, 6:35am
be warned that having loud stereos leads to a potential offence of careless driving or usingnoisy vehicle equipment.

phalanax, May 11, 8:27am
If you want that 67 impala dont spend a dime on it .start tuckin away the lose change and just drive what you got til it falls over .then you might be in a better place.mags and gauges arent gonna get you the car you really want .real cars dont need bling.they make their own statement .FACTORY.FULLY LOADED.GENUINE.who needs bullet exhausts when your factory models got 8 cylinders 4 overhead cams , quad valves and pipes to suit. yet is qiuter than the average 4 cylinder.Choose wisely .Sacrifice the short term for something more permanent.

spead, May 11, 8:39am
dont waste your time. Sell

johnf_456, May 11, 8:41am
How hes a poor student

michael.benn, May 11, 10:34am
I could sell but would have to temporarily resort to train and bus every morning and afternoon which costs me just as much as I spend in petrol atm.

Not sure if I could find a better car than what I have right now with about $2,000, if you see anything tell me but I think I did pretty well.

johnf_456, May 11, 10:38am
Just get the trans serviced, it may be something simpler than you imagined.

ct9a, May 11, 10:50am
put a rotor in it

johnf_456, May 11, 10:52am
Best idea ever on a budget!

ct9a, May 11, 10:54am
dont forget to fit a "super trap" muffler

any thoughts scotty 20001!
