I bought a car from a car yard the day that is arrived off the ship from japan so I was the first NZ owner. when it arrived it got its compliance and first warrant done by north shore testing station (which is where the car yard took it).
6 months later I go to take it for a warrant and it fails on the right front tyre because it was a non-direcitional tyre and the left front one was a directional one (along with the two rear ones). Now I hadn't replaced the tires since I bought it so they were the same ones that PASSED a WOF when the car came into the country.
I emailed the manager at the testing station that issued the WOF and provided him with the info he asked for and he did some digging around. End result is that they admitted to issuing the WOF when it shouldn't have been issued and they also reimbursed me for the cost of the new tyre I had to buy.

is it possible the car yard changed tyres after the wof was issued and before you got the car!

That was my first thought and I asked the car yard who said no of course so then I contacted the testing station and through their investigation they said that it was an error on their part.
