The right turning traffic is controlled by lights and if you are turning left here you would have to give way to them.Signs and lights will always take precedence over rules.

Of course not.The new rule applies only to uncontrolled intersections.That one is controlled by lights and give-way signs.

Yeah I know but people don't look at signs and it's going to be a #### up. There's been an opposite of this at a few intersections down here for years under the old rules and people still didn't get it

If you can't read a sign, or understand that give way rules do not apply at controlled intersections you shouldn't be driving.

Kind of like people who can't read a question shouldn't be posting. I do understand the road signs. My question was will they remove these unnessasary signs!

No need to remove the signs at all.They are merely a reminder when you are turning left into a main road, as you are bypassing the traffic lights.

I'd worry far more about people who ignore existing stop signs and red traffic lights.

the signs aren't unnecessary , that is a big intersection, the cars turning right have 2 straight thru lanes to give way too before they can turn, the car using the give way sign is turning left butonly has to check for right turning traffic,because of the size of the intersection of course they should give way,it is easier for them to turn the corner than the car waiting on the right.It's a controlled intersection just do what the sign says.

Like I said they didn't work in reverse so will be even worse now, how will people stuff it up well I'm not sure if no one will give way or if everyone will give way but either way it will do nothing to improve traffic flow or safety which I thought the signs were for!

It's a tiny intersection no one uses the left side strait lane it's only 50m long. Have a look at the full stretch of road kaikorai valley rd and Brockville rd Dunedin

evotime, how are the signs in your first pic unnecessary! The traffic using that free left turn have to give way to traffic coming straight through a green light from their right.

I think the crux of what evotime is saying is because everyoneignores the sign it should be removed.

The GIVE WAY sign has to be there. new rule dose not apply at this "intersection as it's a "free turn" which takes away the need of a green arrow on the light tree.
So if you take away the GIVE WAY then you will have to fit a green arrow to the intersection.

When you are at an intersection that's controlled by Give Way / Stop signs or traffic lights, you do what the signs / lights tell you.

So there's no need to change anything at that intersection.

Ok so currently both directions get a green light, cars crossing the traffic right have the right of way over left turningvehicles because there is a give way sign for left turning vehicles, this worked well until 5am today, but now the right turning cars still have the right of way if they know there is a give way sign there. If there was no give way sign would the left turning traffic have the right of way
