Why do people indicate when they

are going straight through a roundabout!. They are going straight ahead not turning right.

rob_man, Apr 3, 5:01pm
Because some idiot in Wellington decided that we all should.I do what everybody who is faced with a bad law should do, ignore it.

thunderbolt, Apr 3, 5:14pm
Agreed, just like on ramp lights.

lk104, Apr 3, 5:16pm
Since when was it law! I always thought when going straight through a roundabout you don't indicate going into it and only indicate left as you pass the first exit. I'm not wrong am I!

amie10, Apr 3, 5:16pm
Are you not suppose to indicate when exiting a round about!

amie10, Apr 3, 5:18pm

lk104, Apr 3, 5:19pm
Yes, but you dont indicate that you are going right when entering a roundabout when you are going straight through.

lk104, Apr 3, 5:20pm
Yes as I thought, why do idiots indicate then!

gunhand, Apr 3, 5:23pm
Problem is that here in Gore we have 3 of the things, simple single lane items with 4 excits on them. So when you pass through heading straight once youve passed the left excit/turn you then have to indicate left and by the time you do that your out the other side already so its kinda pointless as you cant go any other way apart from straight, unless your going to drive up on the verge etc.

gammelvind, Apr 3, 5:25pm
Simple! They be plonkers, would use other words but therebe moderators.

I hear ya. Lol

gubay, Apr 3, 5:44pm
We not be plonkers, we be obeying the law so we don't lose our employ. you be plonkers who collect tickets.

gammelvind, Apr 3, 5:52pm
Yep as a close to full time driver, I have seen many cops failing to indicate exiting roundabouts. Must admit I have never seen them indicating right when intending to go straight, so they get that part right.

loose.unit8, Apr 3, 5:57pm
If you're indicating right when going straight, you're indicating wrongly and are a plonker even according to the law

loose.unit8, Apr 3, 5:59pm
TBH the law is an ass for one lane roundabouts so I actively refuse to indicate off a one lane roundabout and but have always indicated off the 2 lane ones

gubay, Apr 3, 6:04pm
Where did I state I indicate right!

loose.unit8, Apr 3, 6:07pm
Have I not followed the thread correctly!

gubay, Apr 3, 6:12pm
No, thread is about using indicator fullstop when going straight through a roundabout.

loose.unit8, Apr 3, 6:15pm
Oh, sorry, my mistake

bashfulbro, Apr 3, 6:17pm
correct amie10

nightboss, Apr 3, 6:17pm
Then tell it to a judge when you are caught for the fifth time and lose your licence due to 5 x 20 demerit points.

daryl14, Apr 3, 6:17pm
Indicating when exiting lets the chaps opposite you know that it is safe for them to continue into the roundabout without the fear that you will suddeny come around from their right and stove them in the side. allows smoother flow all around.

wellystretch, Apr 3, 6:22pm
I was following another driver for about 20 minutes who was doing just this, she would come up to the round about, slow down, almost stop, put on herright hand indicator and then hoon straight through the thing.

nightboss, Apr 3, 6:26pm
This is an example of what is wrong with our drivers licence system in NZ.
There is no test of knowledge of the road rules from the day you pass your DL until you stop driving (or have it suspended for more than a year). You can pass at 15 then never be tested on knowledge again.
Some of the above posters have shown they are both ignorant of the rules and adamant they will not change to comply with them.

I think we should have to pass the "scratch and win" drivers test every 10 years when we renew our licences, this would ensure we all study the rules at least every decade of driving. Fail the "scratch" test and you have to redo the practical test too (only a suggestion).

p_rock, Apr 3, 6:37pm
^ So what's right then! lol.

It's abit dumb to enter a roundabout indicating to go right. From the opposite side, you sit there giving way. then you miss an opportunity to enter because some idiot was never turning right in the first place.

Very frustrating when you're at Royal Oak or Panmure.
