Can a Rotary be reliable?

Heard of power to weight!

foxdonut, Apr 16, 5:23pm
i dunno what your particular car weighs, but a quick google indicates its over 1300kgs.

Is this correct!

1ollie, Apr 16, 5:29pm
Hahahahahaha you are just a laugh arent you! Formula Atlantic motors made around 230-250HP at the crank not 300! and a long block of that spec will cost you about what you could build a pretty decent 13B bridgeport 250HP at the wheels engine setup for! 13B's are about 40 years old now to lol.

1ollie, Apr 16, 5:33pm
But 240HP is what a Formula Atlantic 4AGE makes but to bad the engine costs around the same as a whole second hand high spec RX8 aye!

1ollie, Apr 16, 7:16pm
Where have you gone foxdumbarse! haha

mals69, Apr 16, 7:28pm
Nah all noise no go unless have the $ spent on them, went past me young cousin in his rx7 who was tapped in an 88 twin cam prelude . anything that relies on revs to produce the power . stay well clear unless you like paying for wear .

foxdonut, Apr 16, 7:50pm
A few hours ago you'd never heard of them and now suddenly your an expert! If you knew what formula meant you'd know the Google results toured quoting aren't formula spec and are street engines.

Nice try though.

Hey, how's that record breaking half million dollar skyline coming along!

1ollie, Apr 16, 8:48pm
Ohhww haha why dont you just give up champ! Do you like keep being made to look like a fool time and time again!
Where did you get the idea that I had not heard of them before! lol no need for google like i bet you used it strait after I said they dont make 300HP though haha. Now will another google search from you maybe this time you should look for the specs of one of the race cars(as raced) do! or do you need to do the maths on why they are not making 300HP from one aswell!

I Think the Skyline land speed project was never going to take off. I mean I even offered for anyone to pay for me to build it but amazingly no one took me up on the offer hahahahaha

1ollie, Apr 16, 8:54pm
Just same as most V8s then

banana_ninja1, Apr 16, 8:54pm
I had an RX8 for two years and beside buying some Bridgestone RE001, didn't spend any money aside form normal servicing.Power isn't everything (It was a type S with sports suspension) but it was the most fun car have driven.

banana_ninja1, Apr 16, 8:56pm
just because something rhymes it doesn't make it true. What are you. simple!

richardmayes, Apr 16, 9:15pm
MY SUPERCHARGED V6 WILL BEAT ALL OF YOUR CARS WITH ONE ARM TIED BEHINDS ITS BACK~!

Sorry. I don't know what came over me there.

1ollie, Apr 16, 9:21pm
I completely understand what came over you! the shear amount of power & torque they make has been know to make womens clothes fly off and men become all emotional!

jasongroves, Apr 16, 11:17pm
Nothing inherently wrong with a 4AGE/ZE.
Nothing inherently wrong with a rotary engine in its many forms.
Both deserve a bit of respect and both have their place in the motoring world.
To the O/P.yes, a rotary can be reliable.
In my opinion, when modifying, use the same make of engine/car in a re-power.
In saying that, I've seen a few rotary powered Corollas that have impressed me:)
As you may be able to tell, I am not abiased 'one manufacturer rules the world' kind of guy.
I prefer to appreciate each vehicle on its own merits.
But hey.thats just me.

jasongroves, Apr 16, 11:18pm
Oh, and I quite like old Escorts with 4AGE or SR20DE/T transplants too:)

timmo1, Apr 17, 7:22am
Every internal combustion engine relies on revs to produce power you eejit.

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 17, 7:28am
I was just about to say almost exactly that. Next they'll be saying 2-strokes don't have any torque.

esprit, Apr 17, 7:30am
Rotaries aren't that light. a lot of cast iron in them compared to a modern 4 cylinder. I've got an 1800cc Rover engine that's making almost 230bhp, and weighs less than 85kg fully dressed and filled with juice.

bellky, Apr 17, 8:08am
Yes rotaries can be and are very reliable. But you must know how to look after one ;-)

If it's a second car and you want it to have personality and value get a pre 1980 Rx. (My pick is a NZ assembled S2 Rx-2 Sedan [Chassis prefix S122AN])

As for juice consumption, mine is a Stage 2 12A (Nikki carb'd) and it is cheaper to run than my XR8. My guesstimate is it uses approximately 10l/100km or 25mpg.

bellky, Apr 17, 10:00am
Curran Brothers Racing Rx-2 is a 6 sec car.

mals69, Apr 17, 10:06am
6 sec slow these days - get with the plan ! 4 second V8's doing last time I looked prob sub that now - ya can't beat the laws of physics - cubic inch - bigger the explosion more power - simple - simple.
Do ya think a spinning triangle can compete lmfao

a.woodrow, Apr 17, 10:13am
Can you please explain then why the 3.6 holden commodore has a higher power output than the earlier 5l v8!

mals69, Apr 17, 10:21am
Another farkn dentist - TEETH PULLER ! Compare a modern day 5L V8 like the modern day 3.6 you have thrown up dickhead , I could pull up countless examples of 1300 cc vehicles putting out more HP than olden day motors with far larger cubes. Compare apples with apples not bringing in forcing in more air and fuel etc All systems equal cubic inch always wins hands down ! Bigger the block the bigger the shock , no replacement for displacement - plenty more saying like that - that have been round for decades for a reason .

ninja_man, Apr 17, 10:23am
go for a ride in a 6 second car and tell me its slow afterwards.

smac, Apr 17, 10:41am
These muppets who can't hold a 'comparison' conversation without getting abusive surely are tiresome.

If you like rotaries, cool. I had one, it was a blast. If you like V engines, cool. Never had one, but I see the attraction. If you like 4 pots, cool. Had plenty, liked most of them. Straight 6! Had one of them too, not overly fast but would climb walls in low gears.

It's like y'all take it as a personal affront that someone's taste may be different from yours.

Idiots.
