They have dug a hole for themselves alright, the most likely outcome will be the loss of the police contract and someone being charged with motor vehicle conversion. If their half witted story is true (unlikely) then someone is still in line for a dicking as all tows are done on a tow authority which has the uplift and drop off locations and times and each driver has to have their own individual tow authority book. The driver carrying out the tow also has to have a ???V??

It won??

Yep, the hardware does all those things, however it doesn't only do it when the ignition is on (otherwise it would be useless to combat being stolen on a flatdeck).

ok.so thats how she knows it was driven rather than transported on the flat deck. got it.

From NewstalkZB
"East City Towing spokesman Emma says there's no physical probability a tow truck or even a car could travel so fast on those roads.
She says Nicky has not given her real name and is a repeat offender who has had her car impounded before.
She also says the registration on the Snitch GPS record does not match the impounded car's registration.
East City Towing is discussing what happened with police."
It will be easy enough to check whether the Silvia does have a tracker.

He chased the vehicle in his truck, with the Silvia still on board and the ignition on, but lost sight of it and returned to the yard. !

You just misread it. It records when the vehicle is started and stopped. That doesn't mean it doesn't track the location anytime.
mecanix,
Apr 18, 1:06pm
yep. i hadnt had my morning coffee when i read it.
tonyrockyhorror,
Apr 18, 1:09pm
Of course the towie said that. because he knows that it records that the ignition is on to cover his backside and he knows he was driving it so the ignitions was obviously on.
tonyrockyhorror,
Apr 18, 1:10pm
Think about it people. what use would it be if the Snitch GPS only worked when the ignition is on. someone could steal your vehicle using a trailer and until they switched the ignition on you'd never be able to locate it.
tonyrockyhorror,

Yep, and they no doubt already have.

I expect that nothing will come of this, they will settle the matter quietly with 'nicky' and we will hear no more of it.

I have been unfortunate to have had dealings with this company before. Trying to get a customers car delivered thru them is a nightmare. Arrogant and extremely difficult to deal with.

The tow truck probably has a tracking device they should match up if he was chasing someone then.

If there is evidence the police could not afford not to do anything. Its in the media already

I agree which is why it seamed odd that they would say that, unless they knew it had been driven and it was the only way to cover it being tracked with the key was on.
motorboy2011,

its not odd that it was pointed out, it was pointed out because it proves that the car was driven rather than being towed at that speed at that time.

can the snitch monitor the vehicles speed from its speed sensor too! would make the story more interesting if they found out it was the wheels doing over 100kph

This dosn't surprise me.
I once wanted to purchase a vehicle I had seen abandoned on the side of the road. I contacted the local tow company who tows for the council and said that I was going to track the owner and purchase the vehicle and could they refrain from towing it. They agreed that was fine as they were not going to tow it for a few more days.
I then within a couple of hours of the phone call got the owners details andpurchased the car. While I was waiting for my own tow truck to pick the vehicle up though (just 3 hours after my phone call) the local scrappies (who I had called) arrived and took it away. They did this even though I was waiting with the car and explained my own tow truck was on the way and that I had called to tell them and now owned the car.
I then contacted the scrappies again by phone and asked them to tow the vehicle to my house. They agreed to do this for a fee but the car did not arrive. I kept ringing and asking over a period of days. This went on until I got up one morning to discover the car had been delivered in the wee small hours to my driveway. Only catch. the scrappies had driven a forklift into the side of the car and completely ruined it.
They broke several laws in that instance and still had the arrogance to try and charge me for the tow.

Should have got in the car/smashed the car window and jumped in as soon as the scrappys tow arrived. Its illegal for them to to a car if someone is in it. A fiend did this when a tow comp arrived to tow his car that had finance owed on it by the previous owner, the police were called to remove my friend from the car and then it was towed
