yea the guy was doing 113kph with his towtruck and the nissan on the back in a 50kph zone. I would sue the bastards tHE TOWTRUCKwont even be capable to do 113kph in town without crashing little own reach that speed with a car loaded on to its back. It is high time this impounding business gets stopped.

tnt423, Apr 18, 7:51am
If the joyrider gets charged does that mean the car will be impounded for another 28days

intrade, Apr 18, 7:56am
yea probably

richardmayes, Apr 18, 7:58am
That's really not good. Surely safety and the public interest is the whole reason for impounding boyracer / girlracer cars in the first place.!

And it's extra disappointing to see tall stories about chasing a mystery lurker in the tow truck with the car on the back, when pretty damning evidence against them has been presented.

Just lying, thieving dirtbags. And stupid reckless drivers, no better than the ones they are supposed to be acting against.

Tonne of bricks, please.

xpfairmont, Apr 18, 8:09am
So will the tow truck be impounded for doing 113kph in 50km zone or will they own up that they were driving the Nissan! Lots of brains in tow truck drivers if they think we believe them. Oh wait. that's why they drive a tow truck - dumb!

floscey, Apr 18, 8:35am
so when a cop pulls you up and askes to look at your snitch to verify that you had been speeding earlier ,would you let them look at it !.

motorboy2011, Apr 18, 8:43am
maybe the lady with the snitch could be opening up a can of worms for herself, if the cops want to see all the records of what the car was doing on the day/night in question, she may well have been up to just as bad. really though, the tow comp is supposed to be helping to stop boy racer stuff, they are obviously just as bad. pity it was not a newer gps tracker with a built in camera, then you really could see who did what.

bitsy_boffin, Apr 18, 8:45am
The towies story is classic, "we gave chase to a suspicious character. with our tow truck"

Not exactly a work of genius.

mr_bond, Apr 18, 9:35am
Any idea how much snitch costs!Sounds like a great idea.

aragorn2003, Apr 18, 9:39am
So awesome , caught red handed and what a lame excuse they gave.

mone, Apr 18, 9:58am
The snitch system also tracks ignition activities, like when/where car is turned on and turned off. Looks like the tow truck company is lying through their teeth.

hamishcookie, Apr 18, 10:02am
Yeah why would you leave the ignition on in a car you were towing!

hamishcookie, Apr 18, 10:04am
Wonder if you did get your car impounded for what ever reason if you could get the cop and the tow truck driver to sign something stating what the Odo reading was at the time of the pick up.

trdbzr, Apr 18, 10:35am
Sounds like a BS story from the towing company. Its high time the towing and clamping industry got properly regulated.

smac, Apr 18, 11:02am
This was all the line the towie gave to his boss, who then had a brain fart and repeated it to the press. You don't seriously think the Police will buy it do you.!

mone, Apr 18, 11:17am
If anybody else did that joyride, they would be arrested for vehicle theft etc. But seems like being a police contractor has them above the law.

And you have to be naive to think this hasn't happened before in that towing company.

dr.doolittle, Apr 18, 11:30am
Quiet simple really, the towing company in question should have it's contract terminated immediately.
There is no excusefor this.

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 18, 11:34am
That's not what he said.

ontwowheels, Apr 18, 11:39am
not just tow companies. Way back a mates RX7 (built for drags, but road leagal) was spotted at speed on Te rapa straight, then drifting through one of the big round abouts there. It was at the time in the hands of a local workshop. When he hit them up the boss hit the roof, it had been one of the young apprentices.

mecanix, Apr 18, 11:41am
If the ignition was on, then thegps would have tracked the whole trip, not just the joy ride.

pollymay, Apr 18, 11:43am
I'd say it's just some stupid worker than needs the hiff but the company is covering for them. They need a kick in the pants if their attitude is that they can do that kinda thing then fluff out some BS story.

mecanix, Apr 18, 11:43am
one of my mechanics did some thing like that about seven or so years ago. it was instant dismissall. it wasnt the owner that saw him luckily, but it was still a difficult conversation with him.

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 18, 11:50am
The ignition doesn't need to be on.

mecanix, Apr 18, 11:51am
i am sure i read that it only tracks when the ignition is on.

Snitch director Jeremy Mclean said the details of the tow-truck company's joyride in Nicky's car were 100 per cent accurate. The GPS device contained a piece of hardware which recorded when the vehicle was turned on and off, where it moved and how fast it was going.

Thats a cut from the article in the herald.
