Jesus - Thats awesome
Do you & your wife want to move to Shakechurch! I am looking at a Panel & Paint shop incl Mechanical (my side) to push this city forward

Great work - dont let them tell you otherwise

Nice to see quater here - enjoyed some of your fine weather over easter mate!

gunhand, Apr 23, 6:34pm
Lets look at it another way. Im not a mechanic, never pretend to know alot about building motors etc. Change spark plugs, oil & filter and other fluids. Also can do a few external changes etc but thats my lot.
SO, if I went to someone with my V8 and said "make it run nice" and not charge lots. When I get my V8 back I find its been completly stripped, bored, planed and everything that may need replaceing replaced plus a a full dress up kit and block paint and I say to myself"Oh F%&K how much will this cost"but get told, "Hey I love doin this kinda thing mate so for you its a $1000".Actuall time and cost may have been about 6 or 7k though.
So what do I now do. Think "Wow, this guy really did a top job for very little cost and has exceeded all my excpectations"Or, moan that I dont like the air cleaner and I would have liked the block green instead of grey,so I think you should fix it for nothing, and also I want blue plug leads.
And im sure Attitude will buff up the peely bits or re do what is needed.

7k for that job through a shop sounds about right and quite reasonable to me and from what I see it looks pretty sharp.Nice car.

smac, Apr 23, 6:47pm
Yep, we could look at it that way, or 50 other theories without the facts. All I was after was a little more info on what actually happened. Just seemed a little odd for the OP to be pleading martyrdom over these scandalous accusations about his workwithout knowing the details of the actual job and why he agreed to do it for $1k in the first place.

aragorn2003, Apr 23, 6:51pm
Because he has a sugar momma and wants to make abit of coin for himself , as per one of his posts on page 1

gunhand, Apr 23, 6:53pm
He said the instruction was, make flames go away and paint it black. Hes well and truely done both.

aragorn2003, Apr 23, 6:55pm
Did a damn good job , Im keen for one of these 1k jobs

xs1100, Apr 23, 7:27pm
hahaha a paint job like that for a k.you sir are my new friend have i told you about a little boat i have that needs a paint job hahaha

mantagsi, Apr 23, 7:54pm
Holy shit $1000, it would be well worth it for me to drive down to your town, book out a hotel and have a weeks holiday while you do a ridiculously good job for a ridiculously low sum of $1000 on my car, where do I sign up! just plain white paint please :) Last time I stayed in new plymouth I had a ball, love the place!

michael.benn, Apr 23, 8:45pm
Perfect example there gunhand.

Sounds like your customer needs to be grateful for what appears to be a fantastic paintjob for a ridiculously low price.

If I ever need a repaint mate I'll come to you :)

Well put Gunhand

I bet you get a call from him complaining if it rusts in the next 12 months.
I'd have innocently said to him, "Oh, sorry mate, I thought you only wanted to spend a $1000." & left it at that.
Mr attitudedesignz, you're too kind.

attitudedesignz, Apr 24, 6:12am
Thanks guys.

smac, i do understand what you're saying but. I've gone way beyond HIS expectations on this job, besides the suff i said i would do i also fixed 2 decent dents in the roof & fixed a peice of the fibreglass that was broken on the deck (whole corner broken off, see red circle)

There is an old guy at the end of my road that's been in business painting at home for over 20 years, truck owner went to see him 'bout painting it (before coming to see me) and the old guy laughed and said "you don't have enough money for me to panel & paint that so go away"

That's when he came to see me. My thinking was 'ok i may get some more work outa this so i'll put in a little extra time & effort'
Hence the price. I NEVER told the guy it would be a show winner but I wnated it nice for my OWN satisfaction.

He got MORE than he asked and a hell of alot more than he payed for, so i will NOT be fixing the tiny little "issues". He can bad mouth me 'round town all he likes because i KNOW already i wasn't EVER going to get any more jobs from him or his mates.

Would love to be a fly on the wall when he starts telling people he's not happy with the job because when they ask him what he payed he'll have to say a grand and i've got a feeling he'll get laughed at and told to stop complaining.

Actually, i would fix the "issues" but that would be extra.say 'bout $2500 extra.

I'm NOT pleading martyrdom as smac says, i quoted $1000, he got $4000 job and has the audacity to complain. The price isn't the issue at all, it's the customers attitude.

smac, Apr 24, 6:20am
Ya that was all I was asking, thanks.

To those who didn't get what I was on about: if the owner had done the prep work, delivered the truck masked and ready for paint and all attitude had done (ha!) was shoot the black then I'd say for $1k he's well within his rights to have a moan if there's visible defects. Nobody pays $200-$250 an hour and expects that.

However, if the OP has done the leg work as well then yeah it's a cheap job and a great one for the time/money, and I agree he'll get some funny looks if he bad-mouths the job.

attitudedesignz, Apr 24, 6:23am
I knew what ya were trying to get across.
