Hey guys, 351 mild work heads/cam etc. Unsure of specs. Running holley 750 d/p. Car runs beautiful except for when you are sitting idle then put foot down it will hesitate and bog down. If you take off slowly it will drive perfectly. At higher revs you can give it a good go and she will fly along. Could this be my primary jetting is to small ! Leaking acc pump! Been googling it and cant really find what it could be. Been thinking maybe carbs to big but there are recommendations for this carby on a 351c! Any advice would be great.

budgel, May 8, 11:31am
I have always thought that was caused by over-fueling.

jason18, May 8, 12:00pm
Oh yeah that would make sense. Maybe to much fuel being dumped in kind of flooding it! Might have to take it to the carby shop.

Accelorator pumpfaulty !Not familiarwithyour actualcarb but if your carbhasanAcceleratorpump& its not workingyou will getthe exactproblemsyou are having

badz(or)madz, May 8, 12:28pm
are you running an auto or manual ,double pumper maybe too much gas.

badz(or)madz, May 8, 12:30pm
a vacum secondry would be more ideal behind an auto.

Could also be low air speed if the Carb, cam, manifolds or ports are a bit big.
Also check the dizzy advance weights and vac

History!

Geta 6 cylinder!

jason18, May 8, 1:45pm
Its an Auto.New to all the extra bits on the v8s so was wondering if carby is just too big.

jason18, May 8, 1:48pm
Of the carby! Unknown. Was planning on getting it rekitted etc and seeing if that made any diff but if the carb was out maybe should get jets changed also. I noticed a small leak at acc pump but thats on the second pump. Looks like it needs a rekit anyway.

bellky, May 8, 1:53pm
My feeling is too much air before the fuel has had a chance to get sucked down with it - this happens when the secondaries open up on nikki'd rotas. As above^ make sure your accelerator pump is pumping well, the pump can usually be adjusted for more squirt too.

wheels36, May 8, 1:59pm
you can adjust the accelerator pumpbut just a little bit at a time

jason18, May 8, 1:59pm
Ok will look into how to adjust nicely.

Rang the Carby guy in hamilton. He said it could be a power valve or something. Maybe jet it down a little. I going to bring it in and he is going to do some vacuum readings on her. Then will get him to tune it up. He said the d/p will be fine to run on it. Not ideal but he said he can get her running mint.

fordkiwi27, May 8, 2:30pm
power valves are common to go. id put it on a dyno, let someone have a play that knows them well.

jason18, May 8, 2:34pm
Cheers man. We have no good dyno places in Hamilton !

sals11, May 8, 3:13pm

Have a look on the holley web site on setting up your carb properly, Check if the accelerator pump is setup correctly using the correct method.

74nova, May 8, 3:32pm
If your going to pull the bowls off have a look at the primary jets sizes, they should be around 70. If their about 65 or lower they probably be too small, any bigger than 74 their probably too big. I'm only guessing here and going by what I had set up on my small block and big blocks, both ran a 750vc with 70 or 72 jets.

If your keen to learn more then tinker with it your self and use google. Or join a Ford forum and ask lots of questions, theirs usually lots of guys on them with more knowledge then asking on there.

One more thing, If the dizzy was at the back I'd be keen to come down for a drive one weekend and have a play with it, but its not so I wont. LOL

74nova, May 8, 3:51pm
And as others have suggested, Vacuum secondary carbs run better on auto's. If you know any one with any carbs like a 650vc or something see if you can try them out.

shane.64, May 8, 4:29pm
put twin turbos on it that should fix the problem

whqqsh, May 8, 4:31pm
agree, my old charger had the same thing, started a lot better after sorted too

jason18, May 8, 5:18pm
Cool as cheers guys,
