Ok thanks for the tips guys, Gotta fix exhaust up then will do some carby work. Carb guy reckons he will be able to get it running pretty well tho. Will see how we go and keep this thread updated for future help.

maybe you need to go back to basics. Check the dizzy points have not closed up (incorrectly set or lack of lube has worn down rubbing block) that will cause the ignition timing to retard. Could be that simple.

sounds like you are over carbed 600 vac sec will begreat for this engine

Chrysler from the factory had a 800 cfm thermoquad on the 340, i changed mine down to a 750 dp & had no problems. you'll figure it out, just ignore the overcarbed answers, these people don't know what they're talking about. for ecconomy a 600 vac sec is a good choice, for power the 750 is right on the money.

I hate to agree with this poster but I think they are right. People need to realise you're going from the idle circuit with closed butterflys to WOT in an instant; the carb hasn't had time to get fuel down the venturis so you need a big squirt from the accelerator pump to compensate.

Jason18 here (posting on parents account)

Awesome mate! Thats what I want to here. Also was told this by the carby guy in Hamilton. I dont want economy. Its not a daily driver and I want power (evil laugh)! I will keep at it. I have changed plugs and just discovered one of my leads is split through to the core. So will replace leads. Leaving it with my uncle to get right. He is going to go over carb and adjust jetting etc.

What brand leads do you recommend!

Nothing wrong with Eagle.
Can get made to length or universal kit to make your own up, where you can route them neater.

Good thinking though, I have dicked around with a 'fuel' problem for ages when it was electrical.

Cause you dont know the engine,i would change plugs, leads, air filter(or clean)check compression, check base and total timing and lastly tune carby.
