my turbocharged one has made mincemeat of wrx's evos and V8's. they can hassle me all they want but my car is still faster than thiers and $#!T loads more fun to drive.they are becoming more popular as they are one of the few rear drive platforms left and they take very little to go fast. S**K on that! i took my brother in law for a spin in mine and all he could say was "HOLY $#!T that thing is scary fast in a straight line and even scarier around corners."

just look at the turbo ones on here.200+ Hp at the wheels for less than 9 grand in a car that is lighter and handles better than any other rear drive even close to it in price.a 200sx doesnt even stand a chance.

Used to love tormenting and teasing Skyline drivers with mine. Really good suspension package in my last one along with a turbo, computer upgrade, intercooler (bugger to fit) bigger injectors, cam, body and suspension braces and a whole lot of other goodie bits. Wasn't hugely fast in a straight line but by god it was fun round corners.

Many threads in this category are plagued with shallow comments from juveniles of all ages about this brand or that brand being for girls or hairdressers etc etc.Most of them couldn't drive a nail.The facts are that the MX5 is a very competent and well-designed car that is fun to drive & cheap to maintain or modify.At the prices you can buy one for these days it is a no-brainer.

S2000 is a superb car, in a different league, but the need for revs to make it work are a chore if you want an all-rounder.

Have had a series 1(black btw) for 8 years and 140k. Cheap, reliable easy as to service, never had to walk and shit loads of fun. Never regretted buying it for 1 minute. If you are worried what others think it is not the car for you. Have retired it for an S2000. I like that for different reasons, go being the primary one. When that goes another MX5 will close to or on the top of the list.
And I am yet to figure why the hairdressers are entitled to all the fun. What is that all about!

LOL, no I would actually prefer the MX5. The Mazda is my kind of car, maximum bang for minimum buck and lots of fun to drive.
Fiat 500 is another story though, but a whole different price range.
BTW, I think most people don't quite realise just how much fun a sporty convertible is. There is a special kind of magic to top down motoring, you don't understand until you try it. I have had several, 75 Alfa Spider is our current one.

Wow, this got a lot of responses! I test drove a 1990 MX5. I loved it. Who cares about how you look to other people, when you are having so much fun! It drives like a go-kart! My Mrs is not convinced though, so this idea is on hold for now. ;-)
