Motorcyclists ponder this.

the govt dosent necessarily have to make sense with taxes and charges, Im afraid.

smac, Jul 20, 2:43pm
Again, I don't know. I would expect you can get this from ACC with an official information act request if you're serious.

wrong2, Jul 20, 3:23pm
so what your saying smac is that the majority of all motorcycle crashes are caused by cars & are not the motorcyclists own fault

smac, Jul 20, 4:17pm
Well, no. Which bit of the numbers didn't you get! 61% rider at fault, a further 7% rider had some fault.

Oh and it's not me saying it, these are simply stats off the MoT's website.

$10 says there would have been another vehicle involved in some of those if it ended up as a fatality. Too many times there are close calls where bikes are run off the road and the driver is either none the wiser, or doesn't care and keeps on driving away.

gunhand, Jul 20, 4:37pm
Garath Morgan has just done a complete survey of all this in the last 3 Kiwi Rider Mags, more graphs and stats than you poke a stick at let alone understand LOL.Its all worked out per million Kms ridden and how many riders and bikes are out there etc etc etc and in the end we are an at risk group.
But interestinly ACCs income from bikes is down because now more than ever bikes are put on hold so they effectively shot themselves in the foot.

tats63, Jul 20, 5:17pm
In what form do you pay this! If you are talking about taxes then that is not pertaining to any specific activity, whereas the motorcyclist pays extra in his/ her rego costs.

dr.doolittle, Jul 20, 5:19pm
Probably more than most I bet.

tats63, Jul 20, 5:47pm
Well that is an intelligent line of argument, so you are telling me that all cyclists have 2 motorbikes, 2 cars and a high paying job, hence the government doesn't need to put a levy on bicycle use! But what if I have 2 motorbikes, 2 cars but don't own a bicycle - am I paying too much!

offrd1, Jul 20, 5:50pm
So what i pay that as well, whats that got to do with cyclists not paying acc.why should motorcyclists etc have to pay for cyclists.I think you are very ignorant thinking you shouldn't pay any acc for your cycle.why the hell should i pay for you.

richynuts, Jul 20, 5:52pm
That is a dumb post,so try this then. what acc levies does a personpay who has lost their license for 18 months and only form of transport is his trusty ol' pushbike!

richynuts, Jul 20, 5:59pm
They are stupid people,we were not talking about stupid people, but having said that.hmmm

offrd1, Jul 20, 6:00pm
By hornnetts theory because i have 3 cars,1 truck and 2 properties and a reasonable house plus a very good paying job ,maybe i shouldn't have to pay acc for my motorcycle.sounds like a good deal to me .i'm in .lol. AND who's the fool .

richynuts, Jul 20, 6:06pm
Ok a student with no license, whocycles everywhere in fact over 200 kms a week what acc levies are they paying! please answer me that

offrd1, Jul 20, 6:12pm
So you agree seeing as i don't have a cycle i shouldn't have to pay for my motorcycle,as i pay all those other acc levies.why should it only be cyclists that get off .

tats63, Jul 20, 6:13pm
Quite the martyr eh, but your self centred logic doesn't go near to addressing this issue.

tats63, Jul 20, 6:23pm
Where does that line of argument come from, kindy or primary school!

offrd1, Jul 20, 6:26pm
You haven't answered my question.maybe YOU ARE VERY SLOW .as usual when you are into a corner you start name calling .i do not own a cycle so does that mean i don't have to pay acc on my motorcycle.if you really want to start name calling youhave got the right person .give you another chance before i start .lol.

tats63, Jul 20, 6:33pm
Exactly the problem, your line of argument is simple, but the issue however is far from it, and obviously you fail to comprehend this. From your user name and zero rating could it be you are just a stirrer having some fun - well done.

tats63, Jul 20, 6:40pm
Certainly more than what is coming out of your self important little world.

offrd1, Jul 20, 6:42pm
And yes that's great and cyclists have accidents why should i pay for you .why do you think you are so special.you STILL haven't answered my question.and a PS i have never ever claimed acc either in all my 44 years of work and riding

tats63, Jul 20, 6:57pm
Ah finally it's getting through, you say MOST cyclists pay ACC and there lies the inconsistency I spoke of from the start. I agree all sports should also cover their ACC costs, cyclists were only used as an example. The point is that ALL motorcyclists are being made to fork out EXTRA for their chosen pastime/mode of transport, where is the fairness here!

offrd1, Jul 20, 7:05pm
I bet i am and you're not.and NO THEY DO NOT for their cycles.what about my 4x4ing .99% off road still pay acc. O thats rite i mite stop paying my rego seeing as i pay for all that other acc stuff.Rugby etc maybe they should.maybe whole new debate .

tats63, Jul 20, 7:06pm
I don't see much 'picking off of different groups' so much as a thrashing of one particular group. Not sure where your high opinion of self comes from as your line of 'argument' makes little if any sense, and is consistently punctuated with childish put downs.

gunhand, Jul 20, 7:07pm
Kiwis are pretty good a talkin the talk but doing little else, sure they turned up on mass on there bikes and well done it achieved something at least. But then thats basicly the end of it apart from a few who continue the fight.
The powers that be know Kiwis will bitch and moan for a few days then move on to the next issue of the day and they then can do as they want.
I will give the minority groups one thing, they do get out and protest, mind you thats prob easy when ya don't work.
Blocking a road for a few hours gets a bit of attention, block it for a week and see what happens.
So get on ya tractors, trucks, bikes, and cars and protest till they reduce the stupid prices they charge.but they know we won't.may talk about it though.
