What have you gotten away with.?

When I was a lad, I was coming home from spending the evening at my girlfriends place at 1am midweek (as usual) through a small town in the Naki. Was doing about 80kph (again as usual) because there was never any traffic on the road that time in the morning.
A car turns from a side street and starts following me so I upped the speed a bit. He kept following taking all the turn offs that I took so I thought a race was in order, over 120kph in a 50kph area.
I dived into my driveway and a mufti HQ Holden pulls in behind me, 2 guys get out and it turns out they were police investigating a break in at the local school, saw a young dude driving a bit quick in town and looked a bit suspicious.
They wanted to look in my boot and it was full of tools (I was an apprentice carpenter), they told me to keep the speed down a bit and away they went.
This was in 1980 when the police and MOT were separate so they werent interested in traffic offences.
I consider myself very lucky that night (more than once) lol

Speed that should have sent me to jail.

Had been out in town for the night which was 100kms away. We got pulled up 25kms from home, random check anyway my sober driver ended up arrested for an outstanding warrant or something. We were parked near a pub in a crapy town which was just closing up, told him come on you cant make me leave the car here. He obliged and let me follow him to police station to drop my mate off first then he gave me an escort to the outskirts of my home town where he told me get home safe and dont bloody tell anyone. I wasnt quite half cut but was suprised he helped me out that much.

I got taken to wellington police station for drinking a bottle of wine on courtney place, they took my weed, I had a J in my wallet and small bag in my pocket when they let me out there was no bag and half a J in my wallet
and at court the small bag that only cost $20 turned out to weigh 4.5 gramms.if only i could remember where i got it from.guess I didn't get away with much, but a cop put that small J back in my wallet coz I saw him take it out of my bag

In the Bedford van with the band members one night after a gig, the vehicle only had 1 seat, the rest of it was a huge bed, full of the guys plus a few groupiesthat night.Anyway despite taking the backstreet way home due to us being all pissed from the private after hours drinks we had had back at the venue, we got pulled over at a checkpoint.The driver thinks quickly, opens the door and falls out onto the road, crawls up to the cops saying 'arrest me officers' and clearly over-acting like he was totally off his face.The cops thought he was just acting drunk for a laugh and let us go, whereas if they had tested him he would have clearly been over the limit.
This was in the 90's, Christchurch.
