My girlfriend is thinking about getting a 2005 VW. We'd be keen to hear from anyone who has owned one as to what they think of these cars.

They're expensive to buy for what you get and can be expensive to keep on the road too, some have been plagued wuth nasty and ongoing electrical problems. The bodystyle involves some nasty design compromises with lack of space in some areas and wasted space in others, even simple jobs like changing head and taillight bulbs are time consuming due to design. By and large servicing costs aren't much different to anything else but if you want a VW its far more practical to get a Golf.
