If they clip or damage your vehicle in any way whatsoever then there is a problem, if there is room and the manoeuvre is carried out safely and considerately then what is the problem, other than the mere fact that they are able to clear the congestion that you are frustratingly caught in a lot sooner than you can due to your selected mode of transportation ! . sounds more like a 'green eyes' problem to me !

Lane splitting is legal provided.
1. If the traffic is moving the motorcyclist remains on the right side of vehicles in the same lane (IE pass on the right)
2. if the vehicles are stopped then they can pass on either side
3. no using cycle lanes, no using median strips

pebbles61, Sep 8, 9:05am
I'm gonna keep lane splitting, cause sitting in traffic with all the cage drivers and waiting for the on-ramp lights sounds like real fun.

74nova, Sep 8, 9:21am
Doing 80+kms with no regard for their own safety or others. Even if traffic is flowing at a steady 80kms they still pass like their in a hurry to get home to their boy friends.

chris_051, Sep 8, 9:25am
If I was driving a heap of shit Nova I would be pissed at every other road user too.
BTW it is not illegal.
There are two sides to every story.
My money would go on dr dolittle being your typical sheep braindead f.wit Auckland driver.

therafter1, Sep 8, 9:28am
There is lane splitting and there is lane splitting. We do not know the scenario relating to the OP, but at a guess it is highly unlikely that any motorcyclist with more than a small portion of brain was pounding on the bonnet of other peoples vehicles at 80 clicks whilst lane splitting. And what is contained in the OP is after all the matter that we are discussing !

mantagsi, Sep 8, 9:38am
I ride a motorcycle, but I commute in a car, nearly 100kms a day in Auckland traffic. Apart from Harley riders I have never ever ever once encounted a rude motorcycle rider. If I see one coming up, I'll allow him/her (her being that gorgeous gal on the big Suzuku *sigh*) and let them past, and as often as not I'll get a friendly acknowledgement, and they are on their way, no hassles. From my experience on a bike I tend to note that bike riders are more aware when on the road, so the tendency is to suffer at the hands of car drivers who are asleep. Nothing personal DrDoolittle but I can only think you have done something inadvertently to annoy the bikie, might not have even realised you have done it!

mantagsi, Sep 8, 9:40am
I hate to say it but this is exactly the negative attitude that prods bikers to do some of the things they do. This dog eat dog mentality of 'I have a car, no one DARE infringe on MY road' is why we have a lot of accidents. Learn to share the road with bikes, cyclists and pedestrians, and we will all have a much easier time of it.

therafter1, Sep 8, 9:43am
HEY . common logic IS NOT permitted in these threads, red necks (of any sort) rule here lol

pebbles61, Sep 8, 9:46am
Might be a bit much to ask from Bucklame cage drivers lol

bellky, Sep 8, 9:48am
What part of the following don't you people understand:

"bashed the bonnet of my car on the on-ramp to the motorway tonight. (I wont say which on-ramp).
You were lane splitting where there was barely enough room for two cars side by side, let alone your ego.
Never mind, I've got plenty of time, see you Monday! (same time, same place)"

Barely enough room for two cars so some jerk on a bike (who was obviously annoyed his decision to lane split was backfiring) bashes OP's bonnet. Simple case of egotistical arrogant bikie throwing a tantrum. Hope he gets what he deserves at some stage.

pebbles61, Sep 8, 9:52am
The funniest thing that's happened to me lately was splitting to the front of a line of traffic, a big line of around 20-30 cars. Get to the front and the cage driver in the lane to the left (I had pulled to the front of the right lane) started shouting at me "Oi! get to the back!, f-ing biker this and f-ing bike that" then started shouting at the driver behind me to run me over (this guy didn't give a shit, i'm not taking anything away from him). Oh how I laughed.yea.let's sit in traffic.derp =D

therafter1, Sep 8, 9:54am
Do you enjoy making yourself look like a berk on these boards, or are you just fishing for a bite !

We DON'T KNOW what went on, we only have the word of the OP !

Normal motorcyclists don't go around thumping cage bonnets without some sort of justification !

mantagsi, Sep 8, 9:54am
Must have been a damn unsafe narrow onramp if you had trouble fitting two cars in, what if there were two trucks! We don't live in Postman Pat Land where the roads can't even fit a wee van. This holds true if it was a split onramp with lights, or a single one.

There is the scent of a very pungent deceased rodent here, the car drivers must have been on a hell of an angle at the onramp if it was so tight that a bike couldn't fit in.

bellky, Sep 8, 9:57am
That's right, we have the word of the OP. That's good enough for me since he was there - you weren't.

'Normal motorcyclists' don't make me spew.

Anyway settle down because you're looking like a berk to me.

mantagsi, Sep 8, 9:59am
I just went out and measured the width of my bike which at its widest point is less than a metre, then I measured my typical toyota, then the width of my two car driveway which is comparable to the narrow street I am in, which again is comparable to an average two lane (as they are now) onramp. HOW DID THE BIKE NOT FIT! :S even on a single lane onramp, I don't get it! Definately shenanigans on OP's part

bellky, Sep 8, 10:00am
Definitely wild imagination on your part lol.

mantagsi, Sep 8, 10:00am
Please explain, what on earth do you mean by that! I even busted out my measuring tape and everything, not sure what else I could do!

trogedon, Sep 8, 10:02am
Word. When I commuted by car (I've had years of commuting by motorbike - usually West to South) I've moved over for motorbikes (& scooters). If more people commuted by motorbike we'd have a lot less of the congestion there is now.

bellky, Sep 8, 10:03am
Funny. Just stick to the script provided; makes for a simpler discussion.

pebbles61, Sep 8, 10:03am
Bikers are bad arse bro, gonna smash all the wing mirrors!

mantagsi, Sep 8, 10:03am
I spent years on a pushbike when I had my first job, I still think it is a miracle I only got hit twice and didn't actually die!

mantagsi, Sep 8, 10:04am
What the hell! Do you smoke meth or something! You make no sense, your irrational verbal diarrhea is so weird!

bellky, Sep 8, 10:07am
Ditto. Maybe in a few years you'll get some idea. Until then keep old schooling it, not that it'll do you not much good.

austingtir, Sep 8, 10:07am
This thread is hilarious with all the idiot cage drivers. That biker didnt stop to hit this idiots bonnet for no reason.Typical idiot cage driver no idea or respect for other road users. The best bit about the whole thing is he cant do squat about it thats karma if you ask me.
