Whats troggy own, cant remember! My brother had a 79 sportster for a while, god awfull thing it was, it tried to kill me. Was doing a long ride on it (60kms) and at about 30km mark it changed pitch abit. Did the old looky looky while riding still, couldnt see anything untoward and thought 30km to go what can go wrong. Got to destination and found all the bolts holding the sproket on were unding and chewing out on the out the swing arm, could had an interesting outcome if id gone much further. But Im sure that a one off thing. Had a mate with a nice looking one, cant remeber what model but a 1340 thingy. Electric starter wasnt up to much and buy the time you kicked in to life most of us were 50km away lol. But ya got a big leg out of it. Actually his chain flew off on him at town speed, he never road it after that. Blame the owner for that though.

Pffft it's not a proper bike if bits don't fall off and it doesn't leave you swearing on the side of the road somewhere.

You think an SR500 is a joke and endorse harleys! ROFLMAO. You clearly know NOTHING about proper motorbikes.

No, it's not you. Harley owners are too shit scared to take a hand off the handlebars. Having said that, they ARE the ideal motorcycle for riding very slowly past girls' high schools.

LOL, read the rules mate. Harley??

There are one or two HD's I like, but most of them are just gaint chrome phallic symbols lol.
richardmayes,

Some of the more basic ones you see around look like just nice sensible classic-style sports/touring bikes.
Unfortunately most of the Harleys you actually notice on the road scream "LOOK AT MEEEE I'M WEALLY TOUGH!" in an excessively boorish new-money accent, constricted just ever so slightly by lashings of tight black leather and Auto-sol.
(Until they get stolen by fellows who actually ARE really tough, wear loose black leather bearing the kind of patches on their backs that Michael Laws wants to outlaw, and don't wash very often.)

I liked the Night train sportster when it came out, all that Black on Black. Suited it.

I like the Forty eight, I'd own that, but otherwise I'll stick with Triumph.

Nothing wrong with perving at a hot 18 yr old schoolie.
klrider,
Oct 2, 5:10am
Yep, as long as when you ride you are not interested in stopping turning or going.

.yeah but any bike will wheelie with his mum on the back
Hi mate Ok what ever you do unless you can work on the engines yourself do not touch a iron head sporty of any year, only stick with evo engines. evo sportsters only get a 1988-89 upwards make sure they are 5 speeds. it you want a big block also make sure its a evo I think 88 upwards dont get a iron head or a shovel bottom less pitts you will spend more time pushing them than riding them.
samic11156,

dont waste your money on anything thats not a evo.883 thru to big block all good everything else is worth nothing, bike shops dont like working on them and parts are crap from taiwan

Biggest problem with old Harley's is they seem to attract backyard 'mechanics' of the worst order. Reading some of the bodges performed in forums would make your hair curl.
Yes the 70's AMF models were slapped together and are close to a vintage bike in their crudity, but if you like tinkering you can get them sorted. Biggest thing is finding an unmolested model.
