Hi- I'm wanting to buy one and want to hear what peoples opinions of the different years where the iron heads change to the alloy evo motor. I've got mates with both and they all differ in opinions. I have narrowed choices to a couple, two around the mid 1970's and two in the mid 80's. The evo is stock883 cc and the iron heads are 1000cc and 1200cc.
Opinions would help.
Cheers

We used to have a Massey Harris tractor and when you started it from cold you pushed the choke in halfway to warm it up. When it sounded like a Harley you new it was warm enough.

LOL. If you travel overseas, particularly in the US (esp Hawaii), have you noticed that your sleep is usually disturbed by noisy Harleys roaring past in the middle of the night!

If you want one buy one. That era is getting on abit and may not be as relaible as a new one. But apparently tinkering with them is half the fun. Just to ruin my comment, Im not sure what the other half is though LOL

Woof! I like the first one 515953674 as it is 15 years newer. Looks stock except it an 883 w 1200 heads. Not sure if the bottom end of 89 Sportie beefed. Ask your local dealer. The 73 has a bit of a flunky extended front end with out rake, and it looks like it could have had too many "creative" owners. Sportster is a good city bike and good first HD.

sorry that should have been play around with.Obviously the first thing would be a new seat :)

Goodness gracious me, maybe it is just me and maybe I don't know my Harleys, but I wouldn't let someone give that thing to me as well as $55.00 for taking it off their hands, let alone hand over $5,500,00 to them for it !
Can I suggest you keep looking, and if you want something a little different then buy something that is bog standard original and untampered with and from there make it a little different yourself, at least that way you know the history of it and why (and how and by whom) it has been modified.

If you have never ridden an 883, then I suggest that you do so before considering purchasing one.
Can I suggest that a 1200 sporty would be a much better option than an 883.
