Unbelievable, having to spend money at Puke

LOL!ALL drivers need extra horsepower, but for those of us running unmolested cars that are already 40 years old, it isn't going to happen.
Braking for the Puke hairpin from 120mph, at 85m, is one of the real thrills of racing, especially with a car that doesn't have a lot of horsepower.
One of the reasons drivers still like the Pukekohe layout as it is, is that it is different from Taupo, Hampton Downs, Manfeild and Taupo.By hacking a chunk off the back straight,it does change the character of the circuit but makes it more like the others, rather than standing totally on its own.
With the horse racing fraternity owning the place, it could never be developed to its full potential as a car race track complex, complex being the operative word, as that implies a stand alone club circuit, a national circuit, a combination international circuit plus kart track etc.

HD theoretically should never suffer from noise complaints.Pukekohe already does and that will indeed get worse. Prius racing anyone!

Im glad you took my post as it was intended and your right I dont agree with the chicane but it will be great to have a new surface. Now you guys need someone on the waikato council to put some money in and oneday you might get the v8s

xs1100, Oct 15, 4:53pm
heres something else to think of.wheres pukekohe racetrack within the auckland city limits.weres hampton downs with hamilton city limits.whos putting money up.also weres the nearest facitlities eg hotels, motels to hampton.oh yeh just a hours drive away after you have been drinking all day, weres the nearest shops, sorry hampton will not really figure for probably 5-10 yrs as the urban sprawl heads south and the new highway cuts in.and then they ll complain about the noise from the racetrack

I still think it should be at Hampton downs though and thousands of others do as well and there easily can be a solution to all of those problems you bring up to!
Sure housing will eventually get there but not in numbers that will make a problem for 20 odd years, I would say an keep in mind its swamp land near by, it has 2 well established motorsport venues next to each other and to top it off a prison neer by as well so I can not see it being much of a problem in the near future.

fordcrzy, Oct 15, 6:33pm
why doesnt hampton downs hit up that rich russian who is putting in the money to SBR.
or maybe even rename it to kim dotcom raceway! :)

attitudedesignz, Oct 15, 6:41pm
Who, Betty Klimenco! She's more Australian than Paul Hogan and Rolf Harris combined.

splinter67, Oct 15, 6:41pm
We all thought that about thunder park now they grow grapes there the karting track is still there and the only things around was a dump and a rifle range

mokaubach, Oct 15, 6:49pm
Propping up Puke is more of the same dumb nonsence we have seen for years. What have we got to show for all the $$$ wasted on street races in this country from Wellington to now. Zip. Now they are going to blow millions on an antiquated facility when we could have at least one top class North Island track finished off at HD. Dumb.

attitudedesignz, Oct 15, 6:51pm
Check out all the nice trackside "impact absorbing" concrete. Since when has concrete been impact absorbing! I'm sure the open wheeler guys will love the fact concrete 'walls' will be so close.

People should stop bitching about pukekohe race track. If I wasn't able to race there and the other local digs then I just do 14,000rpm on my bike around town. Like I care about the knobs that moan about everything, there is one that comes into the shop. He has the most retarded logic I've ever heard and only thinks highly of his own interests.

pollymay, Oct 15, 6:53pm
Normally has polystyrene behind it so the whole wall shifts.

Actually if they leave the track so it can be run in the old configuration and the new one that would be cool. Just run it either way depending on the who wants what. The back straight still looks pretty long.

attitudedesignz, Oct 15, 6:54pm
And the so called "new" race control building will be the relocatable thing from Hamilton race.

splinter67, Oct 15, 6:54pm
Hate to tell you this but theres a completed world class track already operating in the north island it in a little place called Taupo oh and they also have a dragstrip

xs1100, Oct 15, 6:55pm
what part of auckland city council spending money on a track under their control did you miss and there is no way around the fact that at the moment HD is to far from any facilities so how will you get around these eg build a shopping centre and accomodation around a track that would only be filled to capacity a couple times a year at mostOR the council can spend money on a track with all the facilities close at hand,a track with a lot of history to it and a track that their own ratepayers will reap the benfits from.not really a hard Q is it

attitudedesignz, Oct 15, 6:58pm
Yeah but, who in their right mind would want to put on an event there! The "people" that run it are complete tools and have no idea how to do anything.

More incentive to stay on the track

splinter67, Oct 15, 7:05pm
Ive been there a few times havent seen any problems but havent had anything to do with the meetings.

xs1100, Oct 15, 7:08pm
HD supporters please grow up and realise the track might be up to it BUT IT DOSENT HAVE THE FACILITIES REQUIRED END OF STORY AND AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL WILL NOT BLOW MONEY ON SOMETHING OUTSIDE THERE BOUNDRIES

twink19, Oct 15, 7:11pm
I hear that all the stuff from Hamilton is being brought up to Pukekohe. Was there Saturday, nice flooding every where, doent matter how much polish you put on, its still a turd

xs1100, Oct 15, 7:20pm
sweet as so one less visitor to town we dont mind leaves more room for the rest of us

mokaubach, Oct 15, 7:25pm
You forgot to add all the whinging guts aching Jafas living around the track complaining about noise just like Western Springs.

socram, Oct 15, 7:30pm
I think that maybe you need to travel to some of the overseas tracks!HD is only 45 mins from Downtown Auckland and Hamilton, so although there is no bakery just up the road, Mercer services and even the Bombay services are less than 15 minutes away. How much closer do you need them!
The problem with having everything on your doorstep is that the locals soon start moaning.
Why does HD need ashopping centre! The planned village alongside the bottom straight will satisfy most wants.
I fail to see just what facilities Pukekohe track has right now, that HD doesn't, other than a covered member's stand. Please list them.

At most European race tracks, you have to travel for all accommodation and race fans accept that as part of the experience, as you are correct, you do not put an infrastructure in place for one weekend a year. Please do not take this the wrong way - I am not saying that HD should have had the V8s, but with the prison, race track, rubbish tip and drag strip all basically working together and Waikato council being supportive from day 1, long term, I'd still be putting money on HD surviving as a race track longer than Pukekohe.

xs1100, Oct 15, 7:33pm
yeh but we dont get a lot of the jaffa types down here still hahaha (used to live on the shore) people are a lot more real down here when theres a paying event on you should see the amount of free lookers Q ing out the back of harvey normans and the like.most people down here support the track and know what it provides to the town.which is why we have just had bk,carls jr,burger fuel and the like come to town.to provide facilities for race days for the moms and kids and the like that dont do the racing.and for the race fans afterwards

socram, Oct 15, 7:37pm
It may have escaped your notice, but now you are one!

xs1100, Oct 15, 7:45pm
no it didnt escape my notice what might of escaped yrs though is pukekohe has facilities to provide for the rest of the family besides the rce fans HD HAS NOTHING,take another look at the drink driving culture of nzers we need facilities close at hand and yes we realise you might not d/d but unfortunatley a lot do and lastly lets se if HD does get a history as long as pukekohe and really if you are so disapointed really just stay away as i said earlier 1 less is fine and 2 less is even better we dont mind down here.ps lets see how supportive waikato were, how deep were there pockets i dear say no where near as deep as aucklands,i dont even remeber hearing a whimper from them
