I think for those reasons it's being dealt with separately from WoF. Everyone realizes the consequences of a truck failing are greater than a light vehicle. I wouldn't expect that just because COF is up for review that they would reduce the frequency. eg They could increase the frequency for a vehicle with a history of issues, or a known dodgy operator.all sorts of stuff.

There will be more dodgy operators out there with the increases in costs (Rucs and diesel ) margins are down something has to give

Interesting figures from the UK. They maintain that only about 0.6% of the fleet is pre 1960 and involved in only 0.3% of accidents. Most classics are run for less than 500 miles a year and they are talking about doing away with the Wof/Mot test altogether for those cars. Owner's responsibility to maintain the (older) cars to the required standards but a voluntary lesser (faster and cheaper) WoF/MoT is suggested.
For my older cars, even though they don't get used much, I am still happy to present them for a decent annual check, especially as I am less keen to crawl underneath them these days!A six month check for something that may have only covered 150kms is a bit over the top.

No Unless we get an efficient Road policing force to get all of the unregistered and unwarrented cars off the roads and out of carparks that are there now .

Yes if this was the only option. I would rather see it by the km's traveled but weighted by the age of the car. eg, newer cars every 30k, older cars every 12k etc.

Yes but, agree with therug15. but, this would mean some old cars would only need inspections every 8 years or so, but, you cold make people more accountable if using cars with defects, including those with wof's,but should all newer cars be allowed to go 30k without a wof, but if you had a schedule of poor makes, tires etc. But,. too hard.

same take the thread to general and will be a lot more yes. If you want your car checked more than you have to you can still do that and those that need them checked cause they wont pass a warrent dont bother with a check. In Victoria Tasmania you only got them checked if they changed ownership but if you were pulled over they checked tyres lights battery was held in and anything else they wanted.

The possibility that COF's could be outsourced to firms already in the business of repairing heavy vehicles, and have appropriate premises, equipment and qualified staff is being looked at yes, likewise the need for light rental vehicles to be subject to COF.Thats the other reason the MTA are panicking.

#181.good to see.VTNZ are mainly failed car mechanics that have little clues on trucks.VTNZ spend thousands every year settling claims on dodgey COF's they have issued.was told by x staff member that staff turnover is 25%.

SO ! the law is clear - all vehicles must be maintained in a roadworthy condition at all times. The amount of rejected items at the current Wof spacing indicates that too many vehicles are not up to the required standard. As it is a 5 year old vehicle could easily accumalate 150 000 km & have several faults. Is it a safe vehicle!

Keep your wallets handy all of you 'personally responsible' boys and girls, if these jumped up little unsworn wannabe policeman little hitlers that the gov't WILL contract don't find something wrong on your vehicle at a random roadside WOF like inspection on what 'you believe' to be an up to speed vehicle, then rest assured they will look a little harder until they do find something wrong, because you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be a 'performance' clause or two in the contract.
If any one of you believe for one second that the gov't is looking at change to save you forty bucks a year, then you are deluding yourself.
And you wanna know something else. Like everything else the target will be those whom they believe will have the wherewithal to pay the fines, no point fining the down and outs is there eh ! . which leaves all of the clapped out heaps running up and down the countries roads while all of the rest of us fund the new contractors and gov't coffers !
If many of you believe that parking wardens have become pedantic hitlers, then you aint seen nuthin yet !
Have they been blind sided by Mr Joyce . ooops sorry, I mean Joyce's minion Simon Bridges, all of whom along with big Gerry Brownlee want to save YOU 40 bucks a year ! . I don't think so !
