Where is this pet blind man! he could be seriously busy if he wants the customers.

mopsy3, Oct 23, 9:23am
Plenty of people have no idea what safe is in the vehicle. Go and sit in a reputable workshop and watch some of the WOFs that get done. You will be amazed at how thick and/or ignorant the NZ driving public can be.

fryan1962, Oct 23, 10:34am
Seriously busy lmao he runs out of books and stickers often.if there was ever an audit he would be in strife
he is in AKL and no I am not going to name him

bill-robinson, Oct 23, 10:41am
introduce compulsory insurance like aussie and the penalties that go with noncompliance then I will talk about it.

mopsy3, Oct 23, 10:58am
They do have audits on a regular basis. NZTA can even look at a workshop and see which inspector is doing WOFs, how many he does a day, when he does one at an irregular time etc etc. He will get caught out eventually. There is a workshop in Manukau that has a $40 WOF and a $100 WOF. You dont have to turn up for the $100 one.

fryan1962, Oct 23, 11:02am
ok he has been there for years I think

splinter67, Oct 23, 11:04am
Whats the address Ive got a car about to go to the wreckers because it wont pass hell it would up the price by more than $100 lol

phillip.weston, Oct 23, 11:34am
yes and what does that matter to the person who has their car 10+ years and doesn't maintain it for the majority of that time! Who changes their car ownership at least ONCE every 6-12 months!

As someone who has always been on the look out for cars to buy in QLD I can tell you I would much prefer the WOF system of NZ. So many cars here are just CLAPPED OUT because they have been registered to the same owner for so long and never been maintained.

chebry, Oct 23, 12:10pm
Never owned a car in OZ have you, the insurance aspect of registration is 3rd party injury insurance in Australia what we call ACC its built into the registration fee except in NSW where you pay it seperately once you have a pink slip(WOF)

bill-robinson, Oct 23, 12:52pm
No,I went to the real world for a long time then came back for the easy life. sounds like NSW is much the same as here then but probably costs more.

chebry, Oct 23, 1:12pm
Annual inspections much tougher than NZ no oil leaks or oil stains permitted rego was dear $742 last time I regoed the EH in 2001 most of that is the injury insurance reg was only $200 odd after then I reregistered the car in Tassie only $442 per year and no inspections after the initial one

jason18, Oct 23, 1:56pm
Yes to eating more cheese!

pico42, Oct 23, 2:33pm
Having seen some of the vehicles on the road here in regional WA, I would be reluctant to move to less WoF's. Some of them are rusted out deathtraps.

hyphen, Oct 23, 3:30pm
if youu're a boong you don't need to maintain your car, or have it road legal

bill-robinson, Oct 23, 6:54pm
So your $742 is about the same as I pay forreg,WOF's, and fully comp insurance. And some idiots want to change
I despair, let them move to WA, both places will be better off

mrsdoobercoons, Oct 23, 7:26pm
Yes, it's a better system than what we've got here at present.

I've lived there and got to quite like the way they do things, but I got a short sharp wake up about vehicle maintenance in the first couple of months I was there. The roadside checks are pretty staunch, as were the cops generally, and a light out is a definite pull over.I never got sent over the pits, but heard from mates that it wasn't pleasant. You kept your vehicle up to standard so you didn't.

But.If it was going to be introduced here, it would have to be a staged process. The mindset of motorists and the motor trade would have to change a lot.Motorists would have to take responsibility for the state of their vehicles (our police force can assist if required) and the trade will have to change their attitude and get people to take work to them willingly, rather than being forced every 6 months by and antiquated law.

the-saint1, Oct 23, 7:58pm
The police ( read Highwaymen ) will have a field day if the WoF system is changed.they will inspect your car on the side of the road and fine you for every item that makes your car unroadworthy, Has anyone thought about this aspect!

therafter1, Oct 23, 8:41pm
They have been told a number of times, but they prefer to believe honest Gerry Brownlee, and that he wants to save them forty bucks a year .lol

therafter1, Oct 23, 8:42pm
He's suchnice man is our Gerryeh !

franc123, Oct 23, 8:56pm
Yep sure have, nothing wrong with your car, nothing to worry about. This is what happens in other places that don't have periodic inspection. Same if you have up to date license, and haven't been drinking or doing anything else you shouldn't be while in charge of a vehicle, all OK carry on sir. Is there something wrong with this!

puddleduck00, Oct 23, 9:33pm
Absolutely. Used to live in QLD, and the amount of rusty shitheaps with bald tyres and scored brake discs (probably due to there being nothing left on the brake shoes). That's only things you can see - What about shocks! I don't trust NZers enough to put faith their ability to keep their car in a safe working condition. I absolutely vote NO

chebry, Oct 24, 6:39am
QLD cops are too busy busting dope smokers to police road worthyness. Else where in OZ where you are allowed recreational smoking the police or transport agency have less to do and can do roadside inspections. Qld cars rarely venture outside of QLD as they will be put off the road in properly managed states

neryl1, Oct 24, 7:38am
no wof in Victoria or Tasmania they have never needed them but if you change ownership of a car in Victoria you needed a check that might of been changing a NSW car to Vic but didnt need a check when buying a car in Tasmania you still have to keep it roadworthy or get fined.

chebry, Oct 24, 4:14pm
A full pits inspection is a scary event the car must be as new no oil leaks oil stains no rust and it must comply with its compliance plate everything must work no exceptions. Funny thing a proper Aussie RWC check would put most NZ cars off the road as would a roadside shaker test.

chebry, Oct 24, 4:17pm
In Victoria you need a RWCto transfer registration after that its your problem.Tasmania on first registration you need a RWC
