Speed doesn't kill, poor handling does!

My driving is nothing special. I know I drive average like. Have considered doing something to improve my skills but haven't quite got around to it yet! Would love to do that Porsche training thing in Oz.
Just think the government is missing the mark with their stated aim of improving the lot on the road.

mcscottwgtn, Dec 14, 9:38am
Spot on. We are taught to drive the car, but not 'control' the car.

loose.unit8, Dec 14, 9:46am
Driver 'training' here is ma and pa average teaching their bad habits to their kids.

Compulsory professional driver training should be required to receive a license.Should be subsidised to a certain extent by the govt and/or acc but the person trying for the license should pay the bulk of it

Ya see I take a TOTALLY different view.
Forgive the rant here please.
New Zealand over the past few years has become totally of the mindset that the nanny state or the great THEY must take care of things.
WHAT HAPPENED TO PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!
Ohh ya know I'm only an average driver -THEY should do something about it.
Ohh that testing station missed that I had shot brakes and bald tyres. Its all their fault.
What next. Ohh I ran out of tampons and so I bled everywhere.!
For gosh sakestake charge of your own destiny.

chippy_45, Dec 14, 9:48am
what a stupid thing to say. it comes down to the maturity of the driver wether it travels that speed on the road or not. and even if you crash and die in a car thats capable of 200+ what makes it your fault! a car coming the otherway may have crossed center lane or you get cut off or whatever

mcscottwgtn, Dec 14, 9:52am
I am looking forwards to the day that we ride in electric cars and some unic robot does the driving as seen at the movies - not.

gunhand, Dec 14, 9:55am
HELL NO, that sounds far to dangerous to me, who would protect me if it went wrong, who could I blame, not myself surely. I can not be expected to think for myself the government didnt give me the correct education to do that. And if they had I choose not to listen it was the teachers fault, not mine.
Nothing in this world is my fault.

kazbanz, Dec 14, 9:56am
Yea yea --Hey did ya find a car!

kazbanz, Dec 14, 9:56am
Mind you speedo's that dont display beyond 140km/h wouldn't be silly. Once you get to 140 you're out of a licence3 if caught so its entirely academic

chippy_45, Dec 14, 10:00am
they dont train us to drive cars at all. another stupid thing to say on your behalf

mcscottwgtn, Dec 14, 10:05am
Think of all the well trained new drivers that could have been funded from that one lame Falchoon falling off the road advert. That could have made a difference to the safety of our roads. I guess at least we got a laugh out of the add. No point crying about the cost.

gunhand, Dec 14, 10:12am
Not yet went to look at it but wasnt there, but I think one here in gore is coming up soon. Cheers.

mcscottwgtn, Dec 14, 10:15am
I take full personal responsibility for my own driving. I would like to see better training of especially our new drivers. I could seek further training to improve my own skills but I think it is more likely that a rouge Falchoon (or Skyline) will wipe me out, opposed to me falling off the road.

chippy_45, Dec 14, 10:29am
yeap been driving since i was 14. nobody can teach you to drive, experience teaches you to drive

mcscottwgtn, Dec 14, 10:41am
Bad habits can lead to a crash eg some drivers hold the gear stick like a teenager and their cell phone. Having both hands on the wheel generally assists in avoiding obstacles. One handed would be hard work to say the least.

elect70, Dec 14, 12:26pm
Hang on theseLTA ads show that with all the traction /stabilitycontrols on a car you can go around corners flat out as it will save you .

kazbanz, Dec 14, 12:30pm
Gosh what really scares me is that you genuinely believe that.
Do divers, airline pilots for that matter ANY skill have that attitude!

smac, Dec 14, 1:00pm
All those funny quotes you see about arguing on the internet are SO true.

loose.unit8, Dec 14, 1:27pm
Do you not have a car with power steering!

jono2912, Dec 14, 1:29pm
Not his point.

joanie32, Dec 14, 1:54pm
dumbest comment possible.

mcscottwgtn, Dec 14, 1:54pm
My power steering wont save me (or you) from the pearly gates if I only choose to use one hand on the wheel.

johnf_456, Dec 14, 3:18pm
Hand over the tui's, something is loose.

wrong2, Dec 14, 5:42pm
lol thread

lol hardest at the serious replys

mcscottwgtn , you simply have to have a speed limit in this country

john247, Dec 14, 8:04pm
Give a boy a toy and he will play with it! 15 or 50"it's in the blood"
I think when your older you know the only place to do it is on the track or getting that way. Cars kill usually from mistakes anything powered by human has a chance of error and we all make mistakes. So bottom line is people kill themselves and others not just by speed but just car accidents.
