This is a place for discussion, swapping ideas right or wrong, and learning.
Intrade's contributions are valued by me, more so than the contributions from the ego fools, who think they're right, but are just fools, tossers actually.

How about another question. Why not just let people contribute without all the slagging off!

some of you are turning these threads into a personal slanging match ! i really wish you would cut it out!

Pot, kettle, black !
Sometimes people are right, sometimes people are wrong, it matters not who the people are. When you are right you are right, when you are wrong you are wrong. If it is proved that you are wrong, then man up and admit it and try not to let it happen again, it??

I agree with you. #14 was sweet but then the next 3 posts from you were kind of on the attack I thought.

Yep agreed. Presuming theres nothing else showing like oil in radiator etc. (as above). Good oil for oil change after that & I would also do the oil filter (again presuming alls well otherwise)

LOLL blimin heck . PLEASE don't put those 2 together, it's simply not fair on Intrade

What has that got to do with this issue. His post was technically correct so why not just let it go.

This part of intrades post was right i would drain the oil and filter and fill with cheapest oil from a car parts place and see how it goes after. and run it warm befor draining propperly the rest of it is complete rubbish especially the running round town is no good for any car
splinter67,
Nov 26, 12:18pm
and sorry intrade I shouldn't put you in the same vein as bellend some of your posts are helpful
bellky,

Lol.
Very short trips are not good for any car especially if they are few and far between. The drive train and everything else needs to get hot so that everything can expand and dry out thermally. All the different metals, oils, fluids, battery, etc. need to thermally expand (get hot with use basically) and dry/lubricate themselves. This needs to be done every now and then and this can only be done by running the vehicle (driving preferably, in warm dry conditions) for extended periods.

Well just saying, but the engine life expectancy of an engine used "round town" is a lot shorter than an engine which maintains it's designed running temperature over long period.

Hmm taxis with 600k on them same as courier vans somehow these keep going can you explain this as there dosent seem to work with your theory I could be wrong but these vehicles are proving me right
bellky,

Round town car = too many heat cycles, inconsistent operating temps, too much braking, accelerating, idling etc for kms travelled = harder life.
Open road car = less heat cycles, consistent operating temps, less braking, accelerating, and idling etc for kms travelled = easier life.

Hey bro try googling "foam on dipstick", that way you get relevent answers and don't provide ammunition for the shoot down kings.

Thanks tried that first but got a lot of USA stuff. Useful info but thought I would ask the 'experts' on here. Not intending to start WW3. Inbetween the agro there is good advice. I have just done my 200k round trip, no probs, kept revs under 3,000rpm however when checking under bonnet an hour later noticed the water level in expansion 'bottle' is quite a way higher than the level previously. "Summat up" as they say. but the old girl got me there and back complete with load of furniture. Thanks to all respondents.

Motors yes, tend to do high kms noting that they are not often sut off during their shift (taxi's on a busy night/ couriers on a busy run) which DOES keep the temps up but both have maintenance schedules that domestic ppl wouldn't ever go near even as a long distance vehicle. Taxi's & courier vehicles are hard on suspensions & brakes. Courier vehicles are hard on gearbox's/clutchs/brakes/ suspensions Taxi's are hard on interior's & both are really hard on tyres. The engines NEED constant (on time) servicing or they wear out fairly fast. A lot of the longevity of those 2 examples are due to constant servicing.
Met a few ppl that 1 of 2 vehicles in the family would only do about 1km to 3 km's per day for months on end, where the other would be doing 20km/30km's every day. The short trip vehicles needed far more constant servicing & often at shorter intervals then the long trip vehicles The long distance vehicles often went way over the recommended service intervals without any hassles.

What belkys (bellend . ;-)) is describing is the ppl that drive 500 meters /1km up the road to the shop/ turn it off/ get their whatever/ start it up & drive home 500 meters etc. 2 or 3 times a day sort of thing. It's getting warmed up/ let cool a little/ warmed up/ let cool a little etc etc & on it goes & goes & goes.

Now 10 years in a courier van only serviced at normal intervals never ever had any suspension problems or gearbox on one of my runs van sat in the depot for 15mins every hour btw none of the couriers in Napier service there vans any more than they have too there aint enough money in it any more

why should they splinter, and running as courier I'd expect them to actually extend the service time by quite a bit the service interval of Xkm or every 6 months is designed to remove the sludge/ condensation that will build up in any engine if it is used "around town", the concept of "around town" does not include service vehicles that do 6 to 9 hrs of fairly constant running per day "around town" usually means a 15 minute drive to work in the morning and the same back home that night, with maybe 25 minutes of running at the weekend - to the supermarket and the sports arena then home this is the norm "around town" for a huge percentage of the national fleet as for the van that sat 15 minutes every hour at the depot, the engine was probably hotter at restart than it was when it arrived ( and if you don't know why I say that you need to quit giving advice and start thinking

as for the knockers of intrade, they need to grow up, he has an opinion which you can either agree with or not, and he can at least hold his head high - he's done a lot of yards in the game, generally knows what he's on about if its a dig to get a response then sure , mention mitsi, or late model toyo's, but don't knock him for trying to help someone else ( something you do very little of yourself - most often you're here trying to show everyone how full of something you are , be sure it ain't substance though
splinter67,

skin1235 read post 46 and also read the d4 thread especially gadgit3s last post then you will see why any one that extends there services is a bellend and if your car is not at running temp after 15 mins then you have a cooling system failure so that blows intrades round town comment right out of the water and I do know why it would be warmer so dont go there I unlike most on here have trade cert papers
