and in a lot of ways I can understand why he does it too
too often snide comments turn a thread nasty, and the whole thing turns to custard - belky will jump you early for diverting a thread

if your papers are so great they give you automatic right to absolute correctness, why are my papers not so great, I'm aqualified A grade petrol and heavy and marine,from back when they had A grade, plus turner and fitter, plus structural engineer, why don't intrades papers give him that same right to correctness that yours seem to convey

try running a fleet of vehicles, and then use the services available already to dictate service intervals, you find quite quickly that you can comfortably extend the service interval up to 3 times what is stated in the handooks for a lot of vehicles due to the work type and load they are doing
but you do have to use the services available to ascertain which engine can go further ( and why )
being a qual'd mech you would already know all this though

mechanics of any calibre will always wonder at the service intervals strictly adhered to by many - it is a source of income for many too, but for many vehicles it is too long, for many others it is expensively too short
back to subject - commenting about foam on the dipstick without knowing any of the historicals at the time ( usage, km travelled per week etc) is fraught with pitfalls
intrade contribution is no less right than any of the others, you've picked on his method of expression without making allowances for the fact english is not his first language

In general terms, I don't mind the Km limits but the time limits get me flustered a bit.
Eg: "1 year or 5000kms, whichever comes first"

learn to read how many couriers do you know that own more than one van if you had taken any notice before typing you would know Im not a courier anymore and nowhere have I inferred that I have more than 1 van under my control so get it right as for the steerer comment 10 years as a courier 10 years line haul truck driver Ive done enough ks to know what Im doing how about you part fitter

my sister for a start, has 3 vans on the road constantly, another sister has 2 volvos doing line-haul Auck to Chch, a brother has a few trucks and a few diggers for construction site work and farm conversions in his spare time

A serious consideration to service schedules is whether the vehicle is on a proper service contract & or also mechanical warranty.

That bit use to cost my brother (owner/drive curtain sider) a fair bit over the years.

I bought a 78 CL Regal in '98, it had done 4800 km, and still had the original filter in it, along with 20 years of condensation which showed itself as rust holes in the rocker cover, they didn't think the or every 12 months had merit, the tyres and hoses were shot to sh** too

if you use the tech services to check particulates and metal contams you will quickly find that some drivers need oils and filters every 4000km, others can get 12000km, and thats just the drivers habits, put a lighter vehicle in an easier environment and 15-18k per change is not stretching it too far
or you can buy into the 5k and spend a triple fortune every year un-neccessarily

belonged to the widow of a bank manager, she didn't have a license, he'd bought it in '79 and used it every Xmas to visit his brother in Welly from Masterton, the rest of the time it sat in the garage adjoining the bank until he died in '94
the rear doors were so stiff in the hinges I had to pry them open with a length of 4x1 - had a long range tank (110 lt ) and the tow pack ( extra leaf and 60amp alternator, air shocks ( which were perished) and naturally original rims
