Park it back on the Desert Rd and pray someone does steal it would be the best option

splinter67, Dec 2, 1:53pm
Dream on intrade small claims maybe against the mechanic but driving it when the engine light is on will nullify any claims

wind.turbine, Dec 2, 1:54pm
Could even be a cracked head if you got it hot enough.

gabbysnana, Dec 2, 1:56pm
Im a mother with children, I have fried an engine (nissan Sunny) and kept driving and filling it with water until the thing finaley seized withi walking distance of home. The radiator was poked. I was in the middle of no where with infant children with it getting near dark, pre cell phone days, but I made the conscious decsion to drive on kn0wing that I would totally poke the motor. A person of reasonable inteeligence would know this. The OP has no come back on anyone but themselves. ALL I can say is that each generation is getting dumber than the one before and more and more want someone else to blame for evey part of their life.

scoobeey, Dec 2, 1:57pm
i would put money head is poked buga

wind.turbine, Dec 2, 1:58pm
Very well said :D

Engine light only come on when we stalled coming into driveway at mechanics. Didn't drive with it on!

llortmt, Dec 2, 2:01pm
What!
Of course she does and it has.

snoopy221, Dec 2, 2:03pm
A 1995 toyota van as the original posters one has a high maintainence cooling system-due to design and function.

The thermostat is at the water entry point of the engine-not the outlet point.
Older vehicles with heavier solider built cylnder heads could with the thermostat at the outlet boil backwards and survive overheating better.
Modern vehicles by design do NOT survive overheating.
An analogy in this case is burnt toast-and the same burnt toast being re-inserted in the toaster and re-toasted whilst burnt.
Not a good prognosis sadly

llortmt, Dec 2, 2:04pm
LOL
Well it must be ok then drive on

snoopy221, Dec 2, 2:06pm
In your case karmaangel Tis as simple as insert money when temperature gauge rises above normal(halfway) add hundreds of dollars at 3/4 way on gauge- add thousands at end of gauge scale.
Add more when driven with gauge reading between 3/4 and end.

Toyota petrols tend to be quite resilient to BHGs (apart from 7Ms and VZ V6's) - it's the diesels you really need to worry about!

meathead_timaru, Dec 2, 2:10pm
I have to agree on the generational thing, but I don't really think there is quite enough information to conclude that this was entirely the OPs fault. She relied on the advice of the mechanic that performed the 'full service' and no doubt the dealer said it had just been 'fully serviced' too, meaning the oil looked clean when they checked it. The trouble is proving it and the vehicle is 17 years old too.

IF it IS a cracked head IS it fixable! And if yes what is involved and how long would it take to get repaired or will it be a write off!

llortmt, Dec 2, 2:11pm
OK I'm sure your right! LOL

kazbanz, Dec 2, 2:15pm
No mate what he's trying to do is state a difference between corrosion inhibiter and antifreeze.Given that the two jobs are universally carried out by the same product EXCEPT in race engines I'm saying he's splitting hairs.
-In THIS case I feel that lack of actual antifreeze propperties will have contributed to the problem. Ie Waiuru location.-Im refering not so much to the immediate issue but to the "lots" of problems along the way.

splinter67, Dec 2, 2:16pm
yes it is fixable whether its worth it or not is up to you should only take a couple of days to fix but it will be expensive

Mileage NEEDED to comment as to wether spending 1k or more on the top of an aged engine is adviseable.

meathead_timaru, Dec 2, 2:21pm
Lack of inhibitor in the long term is the most likely cause by a huge margin. There's absolutely no doubt about that.

kazbanz, Dec 2, 2:22pm
It would be cheaper to fit a replacement engine. But then you still havent adressed the cause of the engine seizing.
So about $2000 to transplant the engine doing it properly-then a replacement radiator most likely or if you are lucky a rodding out of the rad and the rest of the cooling system flushed. Likely around $2400

meathead_timaru, Dec 2, 2:24pm
190+

snoopy221, Dec 2, 2:26pm
Aww c'mon i expected.

190,023Km + ya slipping.LOL

meathead_timaru, Dec 2, 2:32pm
But that was 5 months ago!

cpnnz, Dec 2, 2:37pm
How many km have you done in just over a year of ownership!
And have you been back to the dealer with your other problems you mention!

kazbanz, Dec 2, 2:37pm
Exactly--working on the same curve you can assume the OP has travelled 28000km since purchase.
